About the Author
Kay Thompson (1909-1998) was a singer, dancer, vocal arranger, and coach of many MGM musicals in the 1940s.
The Eloise character grew out of the voice of a precocious six-year-old that Miss Thompson put on to amuse her friends. Collaborating with Hilary Knight on what was an immediate bestseller, Kay Thompson became a literary sensation when Eloise was published in 1955. The book has sold more than two million copies to date. Kay Thompson and Hilary Knight created four more Eloise books, Eloise in Paris, Eloise at Christmas, Eloise in Moscow, and Eloise Takes a Bawth.
Ted Enik has illustrated Love and Kisses, Eloise and books based on The Magic School Bus. He lives in New York City.
Hilary Knight, son of artist-writers Clayton Knight and Katharine Sturges, was educated at the Art Students League, where he studied with Reginald Marsh. Besides the Eloise books, Hilary Knight has illustrated more than fifty books for children, six of which he wrote himself.
He lives and works in New York City, not far from The Plaza Hotel.
Customer Reviews
It's a Fake Eloise
My daughter and I love Eloise (as written by Kay Thompson). This is a pale comparison which uses some of the same language from the original book but without any of the grace or wit. The authors use the characters, but miss all of the humor and rhythm that make Eloise, Eloise. A great big bleah and it goes into the pile of books that mommy won't read.
Adorable Book! Perfect for Valentine's Day!
This book was too cute! The illustrations and very simple language and plot make it perfect for reading with kids on Valentine's Day. While it's true that it doesn't 100% live up to the original Eloise books, I thought it was sweet and it definitely made us all smile. :)
Eloise Rules!
Eloise never disappoints her fans and this book is no exception. Whether you are 5 or 50 you will find something endearing in this story. A must for anyone who adores Eloise and her adventures!
