A Kate Kinsella Mystery
Kate Kinsella's friend and landlord, funeral director Hubert Humberstone, persuades Kate to help him out by preparing a body for the chapel of rest. For an ex-nurse this isn't much of a problem until, that is, Kate finds bruises on the body which indicate the elderly woman, Ivy Waites, may have been raped
When another elderly woman, Alvera Trees, confides in Hubert that she was raped in her own home whilst her husband (now deceased) was in hospital, it heralds a spiral of events that hurls the normally quiet town of Longborough into mayhem and madness.
As the truth emerges and the past explains the present, Kate realizes she must reconsider her own future. But is David Todman really the answer?

From Booklist
Nurse turned private investigator Kate Kinsella is helping her landlord, undertaker Hubert Humberstone, prepare the body of an elderly woman for burial when she notices suspicious bruises on the woman's thighs. Worried this may indicate rape, Kate contacts the overworked and understaffed police. The case quickly becomes a priority when four more women are also raped, and one of them is murdered. That prompts some attention from the coppers, but Kate still decides to investigate on her own, eventually landing herself in harm's way and requiring the assistance of her sometime beau, policeman David Todman. Kate is a feisty, sassy heroine, able to hold her own with any of America's tough-yet-tender female sleuths, and this fourth entry in the series is perhaps the best so far. Emily Melton

Customer Reviews
Mildly interesting
Acttually, I read this by mistake. The local library presented me with this instead of the Heather Graham novel of the same name.Be that as it may, I read it anyway. The author presents us with a mixture of rapes and murders which appear to be connected although the age of the victims vary from young women to quite elderly women. The plot is worked out a bit differently than one would expect.Unfortunately, there just is not a lot of depth to the characters. The PI, Kate Kinsella, poses no threat, at least not in this book, to other lady detectivees. The love interest is strictly non-involving. However, I plan on checking out earlier volumes in the series.
