Essential Book of the Filming of QUANTUM OF SOLACE5
This collection of images from QUANTUM OF SOLACE is an essential companion to the 2008 James Bond film just as "Bond on Set: Filming Casino Royale" was for that film. "Bond on Set: Filming Casino Royale" evoked visual memories of James Bond somewhere between Ian Fleming's literary vision and those created from the cinematic version. That book was very thought provoking and delved deep into Fleming's literary world. "Bond on Set: Filming Quantum Of Solace" continues to evoke more of Ian Fleming's feel and atmosphere for James Bond in a true artistic format. The photographs in themselves are admirable and this book is destined to age over time like a fine wine giving one the opportunity to return and savor the moment. This is another good book to come out on the more recent James Bond films.

The Art of Filmmaking 5
This exquisite book is packed with stunning photos that chronicles the making of "Quantum Of Solace". Photographer Greg Williams again provides us with gorgeous shots of the stars of the film and breathtaking images of action laced with still introspective shots.
The entire book is a treasure for any fan of the new and retooled Bond films. What is amazing is how intimate some of the shots are. But with such stars at the gruffly handsome Craig and the lushly glamorous Olga Kurylenko it is a given that even in stills they exude drama and at times erotic sparks.
There is one portrait of Dame Judi Dench that is so tellingly beautiful. She has a face the camera loves and lucky for us a talent just as brilliant. Also on hand are wonderful shots that reveal the tricks that are used to make movie magic, in particular shots of the filming of the opening car chase and dizzying angles which capture the process of the roof top chase.
The text by the director of the film, Marc Forester is very well written and full of insights into the process of directing a film of this magnatude. I was particularly impressed with his candor about his doubts about directing the project in the begining while flying over to Italy. He is not only a wonderful filmmaker but a fine writer.
The last shot of Daniel Craig in the book is iconic. As he stares off into the distance lit with a single key light he embodies the danger, romance, wounds and secrets of a Bond for the new century. Williams has cornered the animal and in so doing has created a masterfully powerful image.
