Introduction

Thanks for considering 101 Performance Projects for Your Pickup and SUV, and welcome. In order for any project to get started, you've got to count the cost. Whether you are building a weekend cabin, a family home, or a ground-up restoration of your favorite make and model pickup truck, you must wrap your head around what it'll take to make your visualization of the complete vehicle come true. You need to take inventory of the components you'll need, how much they cost, and how much you can afford. Then you've got to make the purchase and get all your ducks in a row before you can even think of starting--provided you have all the tools, skill level, and facility to engage and complete your project.

This book will give you ideas and general procedures for many of the hottest light pickup truck modifications in today's market. It doesn't matter if you have a street truck that you want to rig for off-road or an off-road truck you want to build a little larger than life.

And for the enthusiast who owns a two-wheel-drive street truck, this book should give you plenty of ideas. Whether you own a gasoline- or diesel-powered hauler, power upgrades are straightforward and within most any skill level to install. You may want to keep things simple and do one project at a time, or you can string several projects together and completely change the look of your truck.

A little tip for you to consider: Try to determine whether or not you have the understanding, tools, and skill level to perform an installation yourself. If you have the skill to do the install, then any cost savings you enjoy by doing it yourself will be worth the effort. However, many shops both sell the upgrades you want and offer to do the installation in a packaged deal. All routes are worth considering, but not all routes lead to the same result.

Have a blast.
