Ceramics played a large part in the early-twentieth-century American Arts and Crafts movement, a celebration of individual design and craftsmanship that followed the Industrial Revolution. The Midwest was a major center for art pottery, and today Motawi Tileworks of Ann Arbor, Michigan, upholds the rich midwestern tradition of creative, elegant work in clay. Twelve examples of Motawi s classic works are presented here.

Customer Reviews
Good calendar, and much more affordable than the tiles!
I have a weakness for tiles from the Motawi tileworks, which preserve the Arts & Crafts aesthetic and its time-tested designs, such as Dard Hunter's rose or a William Morris thistle. But at a minimum of 50 bucks per tile, my pocketbook cannot keep up with my artistic leanings.
This full size wall calendar is a more-than-adequate compromise. The photos of the Motawi tiles, mostly in earth tones, range from geometric designs to tapestry-inspired to flowers and pine cones. The pictures are as pretty as the originals, if not as luminescent, and it's sure to grace my kitchen wall throughout 2009.
On the calendar side of things, the text is clear and readable. Ordinary holidays are well marked, though it's not as extensive as some. However, the publisher includes a stapled-in list of common holidays worldwide.
