About the Author
Andy Russell, born in 1915, grew up on a ranch in the Foothills of the Rocky Mountains. He left high school in Lethbridge to head out to the Rockies as a trapper, then worked as a cowboy and ranch hand before becoming a trail guide. After thirty years of this, he began to photograph the wildlife around him, and to write about it. Soon he was a famous and best-selling author, with books such as Grizzly Country, Horns in the High Country, The High West, The Rockies, Memoirs of a Mountain Man, The Life of a River, and The Canadian Cowboy.
A member of the Order of Canada, the recipient of three honorary degrees, and an elected member of the Explorers Club, Andy Russell lives on a ranch bordering Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta.
