Editorial Reviews

Slick to a fault, this glossy action flick takes place in sunny Florida, where Martin Lawrence and Will Smith play two cops--one married with kids, the other a swinging bachelor. The two are forced to trade places to foil criminal mastermind Fouchet (Tchéky Karyo) who has stolen $100 million worth of heroin from a police lockup. Violent, illogical, and filled with wall-to-wall profanity, Bad Boys was the last film produced by the hit-making team of Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer before Simpson's untimely death, and marked the directorial debut of Michael Bay who followed up with The Rock. Bad Boys will be of interest to action buffs and fans of Téa Leoni, who makes one of her early screen appearances in the central supporting role. --Jeff Shannon

A better disc for a great movie5
What can I say about this movie, but the fact that Bad boys is one of my all time favourite films. It stars Will Smith (the Frensh Prince of Bell Air) and Martin Lawerance (Martain/Blue Streak) as two Miami cops, both are two very funny actors who took to the action role very well (of course Will Smith as continued on so in this role in films like ID4 and Men in black). The film produces great action and boasting good soundtrack(songs such as Shy guy) from the talents of a great director(This film really started Michael Bay's carear and is still one of his best).I know its not everyones cup of tea, but if you like your movies fast, sexy, loud and action packed buy the DVD now! This special edition had loads of extras.

Enjoyable stuff!5
Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay make an excellent team! When they work together, explosions rock the screen, profanity is spewed between characters, and corpses far outnumber the amount of lines spoken. This is one of Will Smith's early ventures in film, and to be honest, I think this is his breakthrough role as Mike Lowrey, a playboy cop with a taste for gritty gunfights. Martin Lawrence is hilarious as Mike's partner, Marcus Burnett, a family man whose gig constantly interferes with his family life. Tea Leoni is okay, but not great, and her role seems a bit weird, as though it was just randomly stuck in the plot. The bad guy is a typical villain, with few lines and a thick accent. The action scenes are, of course, Bruckheimer-worthy, and so you wont be disappointed. The cinematography adds to the film's good parts. Overall, a movie that is fun, brainless stuff.

Bay! A Genius Emerges5
While I thought this movie was silly ... and the script was particulary ridiculous ... also the performances were competent but not transcendant ... and the whole identity confusion thing was unnecessary, but I guess when the script and story are so thin you have to find something to fill the 90 minutes. So yes, this movie is severely flawed and not worth anyone's time to see it, but (and it's a big but) you can see the genius of Michael Bay working his way through the film. Little things: the placement of a trash can, the bangles on Tea Leoni's wrist, the use of slow motion, when it doesn't seem called for. The rest of it is really intangible and I don't know whether he did this before or after that terrific Lionel Richie video he did, but there's a certain uncomprehensible quality that just screams ... Bay = Genius. So again, I would see this only if you consider yourself a Bayophile. Even then, you'll not like it, but you'll appreciate what Bay tried to do, even though everyone else let him down.
