Product Description

When Mouse takes a stroll through the woods, he meets a fox, an owl, and a snake who all want to eat him! So Mouse invents a gruffalo, a monster with "terrible tusks and terrible claws, terrible teeth, and terrible jaws." But will Mouse's frightful description be enough to scare off his foes? After all, there's no such thing as a gruffalo . . . is there? Sturdy pages and a cozy trim make this rhyming read-aloud perfect for preschoolers. Winner of the prestigious British Smarties Prize.

The MOST fun book to read a toddler5
We read lots and lots of books to our 2 year old daughter and I've never written a review before but this book really knocked our socks off. We LOVE this book in our house. It is not only fun for my daughter, who loves it when we use different voices for each of the characters, but is fun for us... So many books for this age group, particularly board books, are really boring after several reads. Even one of my all-time-favorite books from my childhood, "The Monster at the End of this Book" gets a bit wearing after the umpteenth read. But this one always stays fresh. This and "Is Your Mama A Lama" are at the top of our list, fun for a two year old and fun for the parents too. Get this book. You won't be disappointed.

What a wonderful book....5
I cant recommend this book enough. It is truly the best children's book I have read to my two and a half year old son.

The story is wonderful. The phrasing and rhythm of the dialog is fantastic and what really sets it apart form other children's books is the cunning nature of the story.

The illustrations are great as well.

My only disappointment is that the author or publisher decided to change some of the text when the second edition was published. Which in my opinion took away some of the charm. I am still trying to find a copy of the book with the original text but can only find the book with the revised dialog. In the mean time I simply read it to my son using the original dialog from memory.

Overall a wonderful book!!

Julia Donaldson is a wonderful author5
This is a great book from one of my favorite children's authors, Julia Donaldson. If you have not read any of her books, I highly recommend The Gruffalo as the first. Her rhyming pattern is quite effective and does not feel monotonous like some other children's rhyming word books do. The story is fun to read and you cheer for the mouse as he ventures through the woods while trying to avoid becoming a meal for the other animals he encounters. A favorite bed time story. Also check out "Room on the Broom" by the same author--another fabulous book.
