Sylvester Nemes is singlehandedly responsible for the popularity of the soft-hackled fly in American fly fishing today. The Soft-Hackled Fly, Nemes's first book, written in 1975, was the catalyst for the resurgence. Now revised with ten new chapters on tiny flies and full-color photos, Nemes shares colorful experiences at home and abroad, the history of the soft-hackled fly, and illustrated step-by-step instructions for tying the flies. He also describes his technique of fishing the flies.

The joy of simplicity
Years ago the only book on fly fishing I had was "Trout" by Ray Bergman. At that time all I fished were wet flies. The flies were simple to tie and they also caught a lot of trout for me. As time progressed it seemed that with Dry flies, nymphs, pre-emergers, emergers, duns, and spinners life along the trout stream seemed to get more difficult and frustrating if not complicated.
Sylvester Nemes, took me back to the time with fly fishing was relaxing fun and simple. I enjoy creating the soft hackles at my vise and fishing them. It always impresses me at just how effective these soft hackles are considering the simplicity of their make up. Anyone who wants to rediscover the simplicity and enjoyment of fly fishing as it was meant to be will enjoy reading "The Soft-Hackled Fly and Tiny Soft Hackles"
Great Piece on both tying and fishing soft hackles
This little book is a great read--good examples of how to fish the flies and how to tie them. The section on tiny soft hackles is a nice addition. Mr. Nemes's style of writing is pleasant to read as well.
Soft-Hackled Fly and Tiny Soft Hackles
It is a nicely written guide for practical anglers who know the significance of soft-hackled flies and also who don't.
