From Library Journal
Whether through ads for Calvin Klein and The Gap or previous books like Picture (Twin Palms, 1988) and Men/Women (Twin Palms, 1989), the images created by Ritts have invaded pop culture. Compared with that of other international celebrity photographers, Ritts's work is arguably more sumptuous and less contrived. This large, handsomely self-covered book contains 120 beautifully reproduced duotone portraits (including three 8-page gatefolds) of a diversity of today's personalities, from Merce Cunningham to Magic Johnson, from Stephen Hawkins to Cher. Often, clothing makes the image: witness Michelle Pfieffer's Clark Gable get-up, Julia Roberts in wet men's underwear, Michael Jackson's hi-tech spacesuit, and, of course, a bare-breasted Madonna. Many of the shots are immediately recognizable because of their use in Vanity Fair, Interview, and Rolling Stone , magazines Ritts contributes to often. With the extraordinary talent on display in this latest work, Ritts has become as notable, if not notorious, as his subjects. Highly recommended for popular culture or photography collections.

Customer Reviews
The most complete collection of Herb Ritts' work.
This was the first book by Ritts I ever purchased.I found it to be an amazing collection of portraits of everyone from Madonna and Sean Penn to Pee-Wee Herman. A definite must have for a fan of Herb Ritts' work. He has become my favorite contemporary photographer at the moment.I strongly recommend it.
Amazing!!!
I have purchased all of Herb Ritts books. He was an amazing visionary. I am a photographer as well, and see him as one of my all time idols. His passing was sad for me. At least we have something to remember him by.
I just tell it like it is
I bought this book because I was/(sometimes) am a huge Madonna fan. I got it about 10 years ago it when it was sold through her now-defunct fan club for a lot more than this. I believe I spent roughly 3 times the price of the most expensive book here (I guess I helped pay for Madonna's baby's daddy's spousal support; that was the benefit of belonging to Queen-Madonna's fan club, because heaven knows she would never send an autographed photo or offer decent concert tickets in advance!) I wasn't crazy about the cover of the book though. As you can see from the picture it's an ultra-close up of someone's mouth. Not just someone, D-list "celebrity," Sandy Bernhard. Who wants to look at this woman's huge lips? They should have put Madonna on the cover. Madonna is light-years more photogenic than Sandy ever was or ever will be for that matter!
