Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly
Starred Review. Fans of home-baked sweets need look no further than this massive collection of more than 700 recipes submitted by Taste of Home readers, which covers everything-and its variations (Apple Coffee Cake, Zucchini Oat Muffins, etc.). Designed with the user in mind, the book is organized by type of baked good (cookies, bars, pies and tarts, desserts, savory and sweet yeast breads, etc.) and augmented with helpful tabs and a comprehensive index. Once the flour starts to fly, readers can use the thick plastic page protectors included to keep pages clean, and sturdy ring-bound construction ensures it will hold up to frequent use. Submissions come from all over the country, ranging from regional favorites like Old-Fashioned Raisin Pie (from Illinois) and Fruit-Filled Kolachkes, a fluffy Polish pastry, to classics like Bread Pudding and Lemon Bars. Purists may scoff at some recipes and techniques (such as German Chocolate Cookies that call for a box of German chocolate cake mix) but the focus here is the end result. Rounded out with tips on everything from shipping cookies to creating chocolate "clay" that can be molded and used as accoutrement, the authors have achieved an exceedingly thorough resource; this brilliantly conceived title should top the list for anyone looking for their first book on baking.

Good basic book4
I have a ton of cookbooks, literally, and I liked this book. Taste of Home's books are always fun and nice to have, because they are written by people just like you me, who like to cook and bake. There aren't generally a lot of fancy schmancy masterpieces in these books, just good edible food from tried and true recipes. It reflects what people are eating, and there are some nice recipes. I found a couple that I'll be making over the Xmas holidays. I tend to buy the books from Amazon because the price is always about a third lower than buying directly from Reiman. Reiman is sleazy with their fake promos and misleading offers, so don't think you'll get anything worthwhile from those. I've subscribed to the magazines for some time, so I am on to them. That said, the books are a nice additon to the home library of people who like spending time in the kitchen. If you're an experienced baker, you can use it as an idea book. If you're new to baking, you can learn a lot from the recipes. The directions are generally straight forward and easy to follow.

Taste of Home = Staple in the Home5
As always, the Taste of Home people who put together this wonderful book never fail to please. These are down to earth recipies which will make everyone who tries a piece of any of them to absolutely love them.

The recipies are great, the ingredients for the most part are on our shelves, and very easy to put together. If you can read, you can bake with this book.

It gets a 5 Star Recommendation from my home to yours.

Gotta love Taste of Home5
