Time to look again
I read some excerpts from this book in Modern Painters and was curious. I had seen her show at the DIA Center in NYC last year, and was not sure what to make of her work. But as a writer on art, painting in particular, I think she is amazing. The book gives a good sense of what painting is fro Riley and also what is involved in the pursuit of painting today. She almost comes off as a rather cool individual, but she so straightforward and clear that I ended up feeling that she had given as much as one could want. I await my next opportunity to look at her work in person.
This is the third book in this series I have read, the other two being: Reasons for Knocking at an Empty House: Writings 1973-1994 about Bill Viola and Gerhard Richter: Forty Years of Painting about Gerhard Richter. These are beautiful, amazing books.
