Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
Author, composer Bill Holt painstakingly combines hundreds of historic sound clips with thirteen tracks of great music to give us an important one of a kind documentary. Highly entertaining, surreal, and action packed. A wonderful way to get a true sense of those turbulent times.

From the Author
This was a true labor of love. Love of history and politics. Love of political intrigue. Love for the new ways we can tell stories to one another. In the early 1970's, I began collecting audio samples that I thought captured the essence of the American political scene as it was happening back then. It was a wild, crazy, agonizing time in our history. I was particularly intrigued by how 47 million Americans could re-elect Nixon by the largest popular landslide of all time, 520 electoral votes to only 17 for McGovern, then, less than two years later, Nixon could be forced to resign by what seemed to me to be just a few hundred Washington insiders. This is not to say there were not reasons for all this, but I was struck by how little leverage the 47 million had over the handful of insiders. And so, over the years I reflected on all the good and bad that came out of that, and, slowly but surely I sorted through the thousands of sound clips I had collected until, finally, thirty years later, I had them arranged in a way that put these events in perspective and at the same time tells an exciting story. I came away more convinced than ever that the world is safer and more civilized today than it was back then. Politics is by and large much more polite than back then. One of the fun parts of making something like this is the selection of the music, the sound effects, the overall scoring that brings the story to life. Many times I wondered why I was compelled to collect all this material from back then. Now I know why - The Nixon Chronicles Circa 1973: Hearts and Minds. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I loved making it.

From the Inside Flap
For those who think we are living in dangerous times- think again. This amazing trip back to Circa 1973 will help ease the tension. Make you feel better. Put things in perspective. The world is a better place. By flashing back to the nuclear confrontation of 1973 with the Soviet Union, the terrorist bombings in the heart of New York City (thirty bombings in NYC in 1974), the Egypt-Israel war, Vietnam, Cambodia, terror in Europe, downright hateful politics in the US, oil embargos, gasoline rationing, bombs going off at the State Department, the President and Vice President forced to resign by the opposition party. The Nixon Chronicles is a good reminder of the progress we have made. Excellent general entertainment and educational supplement.
