As a die-hard elk hunter who takes the opportunity to participate in the grand adventure of elk hunting very seriously, I believe that there are five key factors that if applied with determination, will result in a successful elk hunt. 1) Gain a comprehensive and practical knowledge of the elk. 2) Craft a well thought out and comprehensive plan for your hunt, remembering to build in a bit of flexibility. 3) Commit your willpower and ability to endure the rigors of elk hunting in the face of adverse conditions and circumstances. 4) Have the patience of Job. 5) Execute effective hunting tactic, i.e. follow your plan…and pray.

Folks, becoming a successful elk hunter is not a rocket science. It does, however, require the average hunter to be willing to plan diligently, work hard, and make some sacrifices. About the Author
A life-long hunter and outdoorsman, Jay Houston began his big game hunting adventure bowhunting whitetail deer with his dad and brother in the Oak and Hickory hardwood forests of western Tennessee, Arkansas and northern Mississippi. In 1969, Jay made his first hunting pilgrimage west to Rifle, Colorado where he became forever captivated with the Aspen covered Rockies, and broad open spaces he now calls home and refers to as "Elk Country."

Jay is the President of Colorado Elk Camp, an online resource he founded in 1996 to provide information and services for elk hunters and outdoor enthusiasts. Serving over three million visitors a year, Colorado Elk Camp has become one of America’s leading purveyors of information for elk hunters. When asked why he started Colorado Elk Camp, Jay says, "When I first moved to Colorado and started elk hunting in 1989, there were few places one could go to obtain information on elk hunting and fewer hunters willing to share some of the most basic information essential to learning about this great wilderness adventure. I determined that if I ever broke the code and learned anything of value to other hunters, that I would find a way to share that information."

Easy to read but light on technical data
This book should be titled "Chicken Soup for the Elk Hunter". It is folksy and easy to read but light on technical detail. I didn't get very much knowledge from the book although I enjoyed parts of it.

The book is definately not written for bowhunters.
