A Slip In Time: The Book Of Eventide
A short twelve-year-old with his nose stuck in a book, Horace Neye had enough trouble making new friends without his parents constantly uprooting him. But when a girl bumps into him at the library in his new town, the sharp electrical shock that goes through him indicates that maybe Willows is going to be different than all the other places he s lived. In A Slip In Time, T. M. Cole offers a magical fantasy for kids that seems nonetheless rooted in reality. Horace falls into a crack in spacetime, somehow finding himself several days in the future. He must head off the malicious plan of a bunch of teenagers, while also trying to communicate with his new group of tight-knit friends. Some ingenious message relays turn out to be the key that lets each member of the group contribute his or her unique skills to the solution. And Horace learns that far from being a one-time freak occurrence, his slip in time may be an indication of his larger destiny. A Slip In Time, offers a wonderful combination of the mundane and fantastical. While the events of the story are undeniably magical, Cole offers refreshingly realistic, if exceptionally smart, kids. Cole does a good job of differentiating the nine children, even creating short profiles in the preface to aid the reader in keeping characters straight. While it seems unlikely that nine children of such widely varying ages might become such good friends, the combination of small-town boredom and the danger the kids undertake together offers adequate explanation for their unusual bond. In placing Horace out of time, Cole has set herself the tricky task of keeping all the characters moving toward the same goal without confusing the reader. For the most part, she does an admirable job, although one or two transitions are a bit difficult to follow. The language in some cases is too advanced for the fifth- to sixth-grade readership (certainly Celestial Armillary is not in most children s vocabulary), but that is the exception rather than the rule. The dialog among the children is natural and kid-like. A Slip In Time, is an enjoyable, mysterious read that hints at even more exciting adventures to come. --Bowker Bookwire Review, Copyright 2006.

Carpinteria novelist travels through time in debut book
The idea for T. M. Cole s first novel, A Slip In Time, came to the author one night in a dream about her father.
Like many great works of literature and art, it might only seem fitting that Cole s father is none other than noted Carpinteria artist Ray Cole...This was the beginning of A Slip In Time, a father/daughter collaboration between the Coles that resulted in T. M. s first young adult novel, an intriguing story about teenagers and their travails through time.
Subtitled The Book Of Eventide, Cole said her fantasy novel, geared for readers aged 9-14 years old, was...influenced by J. K. Rowling s Harry Potter series and follows the adventures of Horace, his brother Alex, and their seven friends from the fictional rural town of Willows. Together they outwit corruption, vandalism, and other bad influences, all complicated by a slip in time...Cole, a full-time nurse...started the book in 2003 and worked closely with her father on the book s art. She described to him her concepts and he made the line drawings that are featured at the start of each of the book s 18 chapters.
As soon as I knew I wanted artwork for it, he s who I wanted to work with, said Cole.
Cole said writing has been a passion since childhood, and some of her favorite young adult authors have included Roald Dahl, Shel Silverstein, and Carolyn Keene of Nancy Drew fame, all of whom were an influence on the writing of A Slip In Time... --By Paul Sisolak Coastal View News

About the Author
From Author T. M. Cole
Hello and welcome:
I am happy to take a moment and share a little bit about myself.
First let me say I am grateful to the Muses that I was blessed with a vivid imagination, a love of fantasy, and a passion for writing.
My flair for the dramatic erupted quite early in life, as I was prone to tantrums. As awful as that was for my family, my natural tendencies for drama and getting into trouble paved the way for positive outlets such as dancing, singing, and of course writing. Being an adopted child left lots of room for me to imagine myself as anyone in the world, and create extraordinary adventures to go on. Many times these made up adventures would spill over into my dreams at night and morph into even more amazing stories. The downside to all of that was a tendency to tell some whopping great fibs. I was indeed blessed with a vivid imagination (advantageous, or disturbing depending on your point of view).
During my adolescence I was a bit of a wild-child and had to learn my lessons the hard way. I did manage to steer clear of drugs and alcohol, but I found other ways to get into trouble. The dichotomy was, I was on a quest for peace in my life at the time. Foreboding poetry was my main outlet, although some verses were quite beautiful and hauntingly gripping.
My determination to become a writer was great and I studied journalism in college. Soon I was writing for the college newspaper, and later I worked for a short time as a free-lance writer for a local daily newspaper. Seeing my first by line, and actually earning a token sum of money was a great boost to my less than robust ego, enough that I decided to try my hand at writing a novel. But by then my daughter was ready to start school, so I put my writing ambitions on hold.
With ink coursing through my veins I couldn t keep the constant flow of words at bay for long. In 2001, I worked as an assistant to Stan Cornyn on his book Exploding: The Highs, Hits, Hype, Heroes, and Hustlers of the Warner Music Group. While my own desk at home overflowed with several half completed stories and dozens of plot ideas scribbled on as many bits of scratch paper. But it was a throwback to my younger years, when stories blossomed late at night through the deepest recesses of my dreaming mind that brought me to where I am now. A dream in which I witnessed as my father vanished into another time. He managed to communicate with me by unusual means, and so set things in motion for A Slip In Time: The Book Of Eventide to be written.
I am proud that my first tween novel is available here at Amazon and through its affiliate store, Borders.

a must-have book
A FANTASTIC READ! This book kept my attention right until the end - which turned out to be my favorite part!!!! The charaters are endearing, with depth and personality. The story deals with time in a new and completely different way. I can hardly wait until the next installment.
Superb!
This is an excellent choice for boys and girls (even adults who are young at heart).
The marvelously fascinating story draws you in and propels you right along side these nine intriguing children: Horace, the Keeper Of Time; Alex, the car enthusiast; Paige, the book lover; Keegan, the martial arts fan; Alyssa, the animal lover; Caelan, the artist; Dara, the computer whiz; Brina, the visionary; and Pepper, the skater. They are each very different, and that is what makes them so appealing. Everyone will find at least one character that they can relate to. The author has cleverly brought these kids together in a time-morphing adventure that shows us everyone is important and has something to offer. This is a wonderful life lesson for the real world.
Highly recommended!
I want one!
Get ready for an electrifying adventure. If you don't know what an armillary is, I am sure you will want one like Horace's (the Keeper of Time) after you read this book. Don't put it off!
