From the Author
I'm genuinely pleased that MRL PRESS is the publisher to remedy DIARY OF A HUSTLER's expensive out-of-print status (used copies, after the first edition's quick sell-out, more often than not making collectors and readers ante up $40-$60), by bringing this book out in an inexpensive second edition. DIARY was originally written after I'd read so many gloomy and doomy books about the sex-selling business in Los Angeles when I knew, from personal observation and friendships in the industry, that not ALL hustling was angst- and trauma-ridden. If many readers of DIARY have compared it to my SLOVAKIAN BOY, the latter's eastern-European porno-film industry antics bringing smiles and arousals to a good many people, I'm pleased to have achieved my objectives.

The Diary of a Hustler by William Maltese
Joey is a young man (but legal) who happens to have a very young look and that leads him to an escort agency specialized in provide male companionship to older man. To prove his skill Joey has to pass some tests (could you imagine what type of tests?) and Thane, the right hand of the owner, has the duty to judge him.
Thane his an older guy, but very handsome even if a little bit rough. He claims not to like young man, to prefer a solitaire encounter than be here with Joey, but the first two tests prove to him not only that Joey is very up to the job, but also that he is not like all the other boys.
Joey and Thane continue to arguing but the desire between them is palpable. For the first time in his life Thane is willing to have a serious relationship with someone, but Joey is so young and he is not searching the true love, at least not in this moment. But Thane will wait till Joey is ready?
Despite the matter of the book, the sex is enjoyable and somewhat funny (a peculiarity I have just found in other books by William Maltese). Joey is a delightful character and Thane is a man you can easily fall in love: he is the first person to be surprise by his interest in Joey, but he is ready to try.
The book has an open end and I believe to remember that William Maltese is thinking to write a sequel: if not, I surely suggest that. And because this is a romance (yes I can definetly classify this as a romance), I also suggest that Joey and Thane will find a way to be together: may I ask too much?

"Sexual innocence in the process of becoming sexually aware is what "this" is supposedly all about", says Miss Worry Wart in William Maltese's (writing as Joey) "Diary of a Hustler".
Here is a bold, sexually graphic look at the world of what is commonly known as "street trade". It is interesting to consider sexual innocence with the life of a rent boy but to me this is what this book is all about. I understand, from hustlers I have spoken to, that this book gives a true picture of a certain part of the lives of those who work the streets as well as of the people who exist n the milieu. Joey, our hustler, who narrates his own story has done it all ad yet somehow managed to remain innocent. He is candid and very, very erotic and he is a survivor in a world where everyone like him is not so lucky. At the end of the book he lives the west coast ad heads for South Beach and it will be interesting to find out if he loses his innocence there.
Writing about hustling is a specialized genre in the world of fiction (or non-fiction) for that matter. So many who write about hustlers go into the psychological background, etc and are not concerned with the guys who enjoy what they do and take advantage of the opportunities the work gives them. Joey tells of his escapades with humor and Maltese, writing as Joey, has done an extraordinary job at looking at the lifestyle of the street.
To tell you much about the diary would be to ruin it for you and this is a read that is easy, erotic and fun. Pick up a copy and get into the mindset of the "profession" and just sit back and enjoy. You don't have to think, you just need to let your prejudices go.
Not much of a Diary
Interesting story line. Good character development. Not at all in Diary form. (Which makes me question the purpose of the title.) Sex scenes read like a technical manual. Rather dry reading.
