Product Description

Trividoku: where Trivia and Sudoku combine. Each of the 101 puzzles in Trividoku challenge you with nine or more Trivia matches. When you know the match, you can now fill in an additional digit in the Sudoku puzzle. Most puzzles can be solved even if you don't know the Trivia, by just using Sudoku rules, but a few of the harder ones have as few as two digits given - you have to discover the rest by solving the Trivia. Whether you're a Sudoku fan or Trivia buff (or both) you'll love Trividoku.

My favorite Sudoku variation5
I'm a big fan of Sudoku variations and this one is the best one I've found so far. The puzzle grids are standard 9 x 9's, but nine of the starting digits are removed and require trivia to solve. Below the grid you'll find a set of matches A - I which match to digits 1 - 9. For example, the first puzzle in the book has you match up nine US presidents with their terms in office. So knowing that Washington was president was the first president (1789 - 1797) let me fill in a "1" into the grid.

The book is divided into ten sections, each section focusing on a particular type of trivia: history, science, sports and so on. Most of the puzzles have just nine digits removed but some of them have three sets of trivia taken out. The very last puzzle in the book has absolutely no starting digits - it's all trivia. I haven't worked that one yet.

A few of the puzzles I've skipped over because I have absolutely no clue about the trivia, but the ones I've solved I've completely enjoyed. On two of them so far I've made mistakes in the trivia but was able to figure it out when I ran into a contradiction.

This book's definitely a keeper!

Cool new sudoku variant5
I've tried a lot of different sudoku variants but this is one of the coolest that I've found. When I've reached a point in the solving where I can't get any further being able to use the trivia questions to get another number to unblock me means that no puzzle gets left unfinished. And the ThunderBrain puzzles just don't have enough numbers to get anywhere without knowing at least some of the trivia answers. And, I hate to admit it, but I've even learned some things.

If you're looking for the next big thing in sudoku this is definitely it.

Impressively different5
I'm used to Sudoku variations where you've got numbers or sometimes letters in different 9 x 9 patterns, but this one blows them all away. To solve the puzzles, you can either match nine bits of trivia up - like the sample one where you match US presidents and when they were in office - or you can just try to solve the puzzle with fewer starting numbers.

It took me a couple of puzzles to get the hang of it, but once you get going it's fun switching back and forth between the two. It's amazingly different from all the others I've seen and really great fun.
