After her parents are killed in a truck accident, Delia Yebarra's life is turned upside down. At fifteen, she leaves the rural Mexican village where she grew up and embarks on a new life in America. Coming to her wealthy aunt Isabella's huge estate in Palm Springs, California, should be a dream come true for a simple country girl like Delia -- so why does it feel like a nightmare?
Her aunt refuses to acknowledge Delia's heritage, relegating her to servants' quarters with a licentious language tutor intent on exploiting a beautiful young foreigner. Her cousin Edward is kind, but cousin Sophia is cruel, manipulative, and resentful of Delia's smoky Latina looks. And just when Delia tries to embrace the life of a real American girl, a heartbreaking chain of events sends her spiraling back to a Mexico she hardly recognizes.... Will Delia find a place to call home?

About the Author
One of the most popular authors of all time, V.C. Andrews has been a bestselling phenomenon since the publication of her spellbinding classic Flowers in the Attic. That blockbuster novel began her renowned Dollanganger family saga, which includes Petals on the Wind, If There Be Thorns, Seeds of Yesterday, and Garden of Shadows. Since then, readers have been captivated by more than fifty novels in V.C. Andrews' bestselling series. The thrilling new series featuring the March family continues with Scattered Leaves, forthcoming from Pocket Books. V.C. Andrews' novels have sold more than one hundred million copies and have been translated into sixteen foreign languages.
Customer Reviews
Here we go again
When VCAndrews died, we were happy that the ghostwriter finished the Dollanganger and Casteel books that she had started but was unable to finish. I know some people weren't too crazy about the Cutler series, but I actually liked it. Darkest Hour was actually the first VCA book I had ever read, given to me by a cousin. After that I wanted to read more. The Landry and Logan series, while not as enthralling as their predecessors, were still entertaining reads.
But it went downhill with Orphans, and has been one slippery slope after another. Just when I thought Neiderman had hit rock-bottom with the DeBeers series, he threw the Broken Wings (Midnight Flight was easily the worst of the lot), Gemini, Shadows, and Broken Flower series. I was praying he would stop before the name of VCA is dragged even further into the dirt. But then came the new Attic series, proving to us that just when you think things can't become any worse, you're proven wrong.
I stopped buying after Gemini. I sold all the books I had after the Logan series on eBay. The few books I read after Gemini were always borrowed, so I don't need to throw any more money down the drain.
Mr. Neiderman, if you really care about your fans, stop. There's a online petition circulating asking you to stop. Go back to the books you write under your own name, and walk away from the good VCA name before her ghost comes to strangle you for besmirching her good name. You're not even writing in her genre anymore.
This reminds me of how Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson keep milking the legacy of poor Frank Herbert (The author of Dune) and write tripe after tripe in the name of Dune. For what? PROFIT!!!
And Mr. Neiderman, I suspect, is churning out these knockoffs for the same reason.
best books
I had copies of the second and third in this series but somehow I had nrver seen the third. This is my favorite author. So far I have read all her books. When I couldn't find on store shelves, I went to Amazon and found it right away. I know I can always depend on Amazon. By the way, I got it a lot less expensive than the two I bought in the store.
One of the Best Yet
I have read almost all of the V.C. Adrews books and I must say this is one of my favorites. She takes a little more time in setting the plot in this one. Not everything happens at either just the beginning or just the end. I loved it!
