A great SF romance!5
Brianna O'Shea is working as a lab assistant at a top-secret government facility when she discovers that the recently acquired "specimens" are people from another world. Her boss, Dr. Gustovson, a glory-grubbing researcher, intends to dissect them. Brianna knows that she cannot allow that to happen. Risking everything, she breaks the two aliens out of the research facility and makes a run for it, attempting to take them back to the area where they were captured so that their ship can pick them up. Ambushed by the military, Brianna is wounded and the aliens take her with them when they return to their ship.

Brianna, unconscious and now on a Drakon spaceship, is grabbed and transported to an alien research facility on the ship by the alien Dr. Bakom--and for a similar evil purpose. Luckily, she is rescued by the ship's Captain, Alalakan don al' Chardadon - called Char - before any real damage can be done. He owes Brianna a debt of honor because she rescued his crew members. However, because certain laws of their society give Bakom the right to "requisition" specimens of unknown races, Char must think of a legal way to keep Brianna out of Bakom's hands. The solution? Char will marry Brianna and give her the protection of his powerful clan. Brianna, being no fool, agrees-and that is just the beginning of the fireworks! Talk about culture shock...

Read this book--if you have the slightest interest in futuristic romance you will not be sorry you did. This novel is rollicking good fun, with a great plot, great characters, great back story--in other words, it's just plain GREAT! To begin with, the plot really flows--all of the events are naturally motivated, with no artificial-feeling plot devices pushing the action. In particular, both the hero and heroine are intelligent, impressive, self-possessed people, who behave with honor and good sense. The heroine doesn't go running off into danger because she misunderstands the hero's motivations. She does what any self-respecting Earth-woman would do--she cries for a while, talks to her girlfriends, and then confronts him and talks it out. That is so refreshing in a romance!

The sex scenes are really love scenes, and are very sensual-even spicy! The reader should be warned that there are occasional short scenes of violence and rape, but these atrocities are committed by the villain and are not excessive in terms of the story. The author has obviously spent a lot of time developing her universe for this story, because it is complex and interesting, and has internal coherence. Most of the book takes place after Brianna and Char's marriage, and the reader gets to see the inner workings of several societies in this universe--you will really like Char's family and friends, who work together to help save Brianna. I was sorry to see the book end, but since it is numbered Book 1 in the Celestial Passions series, I look forward to more opportunities to read about and enjoy the people I met in this novel. Oh, yes--and I REALLY liked the cover illustration on this one. -- Jean, Fallen Angel Reviews (courtesy Fallen Angel Reviews)

Celestial Passions - Brianna By Judy Mays
Book 1 in the Celestial Passions series

Brianna did what any other decent human being would do-rescue a pair of aliens her boss was about to dissect, and get them back to their space ship. In the process, she was captured by an alien scientist and became a experiment herself-a sexual experiment.

Captain Alalakan don al' Chardadon was not about to let Dr. Rodak don al' Bakom conduct his ridiculous sexual experiments on an inhabitant from a newly discovered world. Even if it meant he had to marry the Earth woman to protect her. Marriages were easily dissolved on his planet, and this alien was very beautiful. Besides, he wanted her-in his bed, on the floor, against the wall, or anywhere else he could think of.

Brianna had to choose-marry the captain or try to find another way to escape Bakom. Easy choice. Even though he was an alien, Char was the most desirable man she'd ever met.

So, Brianna finds herself hurtling through space married to a very sexy alien-with a very flexible tail-from a planet where hedonism is the norm and there are three sexes: male, female, and hermaphrodite.

But Bakom wanted Brianna too, and is willing to do anything to get her back.

Hot, but I just couldn't stand Brianna...3
This book was definitely a wonderful diversion into a fantasy future, with many, many opportunities for sequels and parallel stories. I, for one, want to learn more about the Gattan! Marljas definitely got my attention, as well as the fact that their race is a matriarchy.

That being said, I felt this book was very light and fluffy, and I suppose it is meant to be, since the whole point is the sex. Still, after the initial few chapters, I found myself growing extremely annoyed with Brianna. I got that she was beautiful, I got that she was exotic and new, but how she managed to "charm" so many royal and diplomatic characters and become accepted so very easily while being such a childish shrew is beyond me. She spent the majority of the book pouting, whining, throwing things, and acting basically not like an educated biologist but a spoiled prom queen.

She was, for me, the only really weak part of the book, understanding that this book was not exactly meant to be on the level of "War and Peace". I liked the nods to other sci-fi stories, such as the killer whales and dolphins departing one planet because they got fed up, and the whole concept of what being human actually is, whether it means having a tail or having green skin.

Char was, by far, my favorite character, so in the end I was glad to see him so happy. I'll definitely read other books related to this one.
