Product Description

Skinny Joe Alister loves collecting rocks. He's a total fanatic about precious gems and rare stones. From kicking around fields, to scouring construction sites, Joe is always on the lookout for something special to add to his collection.

Joe and his little brother Gary often prowl the underground walkways of Fairfield Caverns hunting for rocks, staying only in the areas open to the public. Today, Joe ignores his brother's warning and explores a dangerous, little-known section of Fairfield Caverns, a half-completed expansion site, far from the main path.

Joe's heart pounds and his eyes widen as he unearths the horrible fate of the missing owner, and makes the most shocking discovery of all.

Joe was looking for something special.

He finds something rotten.

Editorial Reviews

From AudioFile
While young horror junkies may relish this tale of mayhem, the production's flaws outweigh its benefits. This multivoiced audiobook features an appealing reader for the main character, Joe, who, along with his brother, Gary, discovers sparkling red cave specimens hatching into hostile "attack blobs." While the multiple narrators allow for a refreshing absence of dialogue tags, there are still weaknesses. Gary's voice is persistently quiet and muffled, and Joe speaks too fast. Further, Joe's delivery of narrative lacks inflection. Greater attention to sound editing would have made this entry in the Strange Matters series more cohesive. To its credit, the abridgment is well handled. C.A. © AudioFile 2007, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine

Customer Reviews

I really liked this book. The series is great.5
It is a very good book. Only one other series out of all thee others is Mindwarp. I've read Goosebumps and other stuff like that, but these are the best! I have read 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, and 27. There are good because they stick to the same town, somtimes the same characters unlike Goosebumps. I think the series is very good. Scary and funny at the same time. Hopefully I'l read more. So long folks. By Jared

EXCELLENT!5
This was a great Strange Matter book! In it, a kid takes home some rocks he shouldn't have, and these blobs come out. It's really good. Does anyone know how I could contact the authors of this book so it can be back in print? E-mail me at mstone32@yahoo.com if you think you know.
