From the Inside Flap
With the wisdom gleaned from fervent beliefs that have long defined French decorating, best-selling author and interior designer Betty Lou Phillips reveals the secrets behind French design, whether refined or relaxed. Lush photographs evoke old-world élan as Ms. Phillips shares ways that color can solve irksome design problems without moving walls or making other structural improvements. She addresses the art of hanging art and dressing salon windows, then moves into the bed chamber with a culture all its own. The author also sheds light on the enviable French kitchen, with its open shelving offering easy access to cookware, while focusing on the French table.

Whether furnishing a second home in wine-country luxury, an apartment with a Paris flair, or a stateside bastide in the style of Provence, the pursuit of beauty offers a glimpse into souls. Taking a cue from the French, North American designers are exacting in their thinking, artfully sculpting satisfying rooms that indulge a passion for France while mirroring the lives we lead on this side of the Atlantic.

Tres Chic...Tres Magnifique!!5
Along with Charles Faudree's new Interiors, I have been anxiously awaiting Betty Lou Phillips' The French Room. I wasn't disappointed. Although not every lifestyle allows for the abundance of objets d'art or the high-end luxury fabrics on every upholstered piece, I can still appreciate the beauty and design of the rooms presented. I like the somewhat cleaner line of Ms. Phillips' interiors and those of the designers also featured. It's a shame that this is a decorating style that does not transition itself down well to the mass market, but maybe that's why it's so appealing. Lovely photographs and a wealth of anecdotal information on accomplishing the French style...whatever your budget.

The French House a la American Lifestyle5

I have all of Betty's books and enjoy them all. They inspire me in my French Decor Fettish. I always take mine one step further though with authentic Sevres' French Porcelain added for the perfect touch. The original chateau on the outskirts of Paris is still there & has a shop where you can purchase even today....every oil barron home I have ever visited has this same "look".

Love it!5
As an interior deisgn student, I absolutely love this book. All the photos are elegant, beautiful, classy and certainly classically French. It is very inspiring to me, as a student and an individual.
