The Essayists

Catharine M. Mastin is Senior Curator of Art at the Glenbow Museum, Calgary and has worked as an art curator since 1988. She has curated numerous Canadian historical and contemorary art exhibitions and worked as a programmer and educator in the arts. She obtained an M.A from York University in 1988.

Robert Stacey is a Toronto-based independent curator, writer and editor who has published extensively on Canadian artists and designers, including C.W. Jefferys (his grandfather), J.E.H MacDonald, Tom Thomson, and Allan Harding MacKay.

Marcia Crosby has been an instructor in the First Nations Studies Department at Malaspina University/College in Nanaimo, B.C. since 1996. She completed her M.A. at the University of British Columbia in 1994. An historian of Tsimpshian and Haida ancestry, her maternal lineage is Tsimpshian originating form Maxxtakxatta (Metlakatla) and Gisbutwaada (Killer Whale clan; House of Gitlan).

Anna Hudson is the Assistant Curator of Canadian Art at the Art Gallery of Ontario, and Adjucnt Professor in the Graduate program in art History at York University. She received her doctorate in the History of Art from the University of Toronto in 1997.

Liz Wylie is currently the University of Toronto Art Curator. She has worked previously as an independent curator and has published widely, mainly on contemporary Canadian art.

Ann Davis is Director of The Nickle Arts Museum, Calgary, and Director of the Programme in Museum and Heritage Studies at the University of Calgary. She completed her doctorate in 1974 at York University, and has written many books on Canadian art and abstract painting.
