A Guide for Using Phantom Tollbooth in the Classroom4
While some of the legally reproducable handouts in this guide were a little juvenille for my seventh grade English class, they gave me some great ideas as a "starting point" for creative classroom work and for making my own handouts. The guide was very helpful when creating classroom activities, particularly for team / cross-curricular work. The guide was a worthwhile purchse, however, for the price, I was disappointed that a copy of the book did not accompany it.

I loved the movie when I was a child in the seventies. Never forgot it. When I started teaching children during my late thirties (Spanish/English 4th graders), I thought of this story again. Bought the book, found the VHS and bought the teacher's manual. In 2000, it didn't work very well because my group of students didn't have enough English to enjoy the word play. Now that I have the book in Spanish and English and match the chapters with the movie as we read daily, it appears to be working out great.

The teacher's guide is useful at this (4th) grade level and would probably be perfect at fifth grade too. Book barely costs anything and I might just order multiple copies to make it a classroom reading project next year.
