Editorial Reviews
From Library Journal
If one loves fine writing from America's best authors presented by fine performers, this collection is required listening. Twenty-one unabridged stories by Ann Beattie, William Burroughs, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Jack Kerouac, John Updike, and 15 other writers are read by five outstanding actors. The stories, first published in Esquire magazine, range from humorous to ironic to serious social commentary. Particularly fine selections are found in Sam Waterston's presentation of Arthur Miller's "The Misfits," Ossie Davis's reading of Chester B. Himes's "Crazy in the Stir" and Kurt Vonnegut's "A Deer in the Works," and Len Cariou's rendition of Jack Kerouac's "Ronnie on the Mound." This anthology is highly recommended for all audiotape collections. Also, academic librarians and college English instructors might wish to consider this as an alternative to print anthologies for writing and literature collections.?Stephen L.
