From the exquisite lacecaps to the blowzy mopheads, the hydrangea is enjoying a renaissance among American gardeners. This volume showcases the vast array of the hydrangea's charms: its legend and lore including the mysteries of its colors; varieties that climb or grow in containers; the range of species, from wild to oak-leaf to Sargent. In addition, you'll learn how best to dry hydrangeas, how to make the most prudent cut, what other plants make the "best neighbors"--even how best to accent them with garden structures and trees. Complete with a list of display gardens and sources, no other book pays homage to the lasting contribution and lush blooms of these treasured garden plants.

Beatiful pictures but short on practical advice
The pictures are beautiful, making this a great 'coffee table' book. But the practical advice on how to care for Hydrangeas is skimpy.
Don't
It's not worth the money. The plants are not correctly identified by botanical name and the information is unreliable. Buy Dr. Dirr's book.
Poetic
If you are looking for real practical advice better buy Glyn Church books or the Gardener's guide. For real deep insight Michael Dirr's book is invaluable. But this book, which is rather useless as a practical guide, has the power of really showing the beauty and poesy of the flowers. The photographs are outstanding and really inspiring, and I think it could be appreciated by beginners and experts alike.
