A good sci-fiction book with a gay vampire twist
I don't read a lot of gay fiction and this was my first gay paranormal romance.

I particularly loved the first 1/2 of the book. The world described and the people living in it were fascinating.

The second half of the book took a strange turn for me. It became more of a series of sexual situations between our vampire and his lover and another couple. It was a curious drop off in the fabulous story telling in the first half of the novel.

Still I would recommend it to lovers of vampires and gay paranormal fiction.

Jade Falconer has created a dark and fascinating world which has reverted to the dark ages because the computers controlling the power supply have been destroyed, an all too possible scenario. In this bleak futuristic world, humans and vampires are bitter enemies killing each other to survive.

Daniel is Morning Star, the famed vampire killer. Small in statute, feminine looking and seemingly non threatening he is infact a killing machine. He works for the government as a vampire hunter and kills vampires because it is the only way to survive. He lives every day like it is his last.
Scott is nearly a century old vampire. He became a vampire of his own free will because it is the only way out of his miserable life as a drug junkie.
Emotions and feelings have no place in both men's world as it would mean their death. Vampires do not trust one another and humans die off like flies as they are killed by vampires or sickness.

Yet under these hopeless conditions, Daniel and Scott fall in love. Their love is doomed from the very beginning as they are enemies and same sex love is taboo under human law.

The story consists of 2 novellas. The prequel, titled "Morning star", is excellent and traces both men's growing love for each other. The sex is passionate and hot, in which Daniel is the surmissive as it is the only time he could relinquish control. The amazing plot here is tightly paced as both humans and vampires struggle for dominance and the near massacre whenever they meet as the hunter and the hunted, prey and predators are terrifying and gripping scenes.

The sequel is fittingly titled "Sanctuary". It is moving and engrossing as Daniel learns to live again and forgive. The plot is meaningful and hearfelt as a small group of humans and vampires somehow learn to live together. The sex also takes an erotic turn which may not be every M/M fan's cup of tea.

The ending is satisfying but it definitely leaves room for much more in this fascinating world Jade Falconer has created. This is one captivating M/M paranormal romance and both Daniel and Scott are most likable characters.

Daniel is a vampires hunter: he is little and cute, with long black hair and pale skin, and no one seeing him could believe he is the best vampires hunter of all. But it is so. Cause under his pretty look, he is deadly and fast and strong. But not quite like a vampire.

They are enemies but they are also lovers. Homosexuality is illegal and Daniel is heager for the touch of another man. He can be a submissive in their relationship but he is a very demanding sub. He is hungry for love, a love he has never known.

Scott maybe is the strongest of the two in the body, but he is, for me, the weakest in the soul: he is alone, and he has lived when the world was a better place, and so now he is haunted by the memories. He needs the love of Daniel to bear his life.

A very passionate tale setting in a gothic world mix with yaoi elements... and with an open ending that leave you eager to read more.
