Average customer review:Product Description
Jill and Carrie--both married with teenage children--meet one day during Jill's lunch break at a local park. Soon a friendship is forged. A friendship that deepens with each visit.
Jill's husband still lives and breathes the coach's life, a life that leaves him little time to spare for Jill. Left on her own more and more, Jill finds herself searching for the indefinable something that has been missing all her life.
Married to a successful businessman, Carrie Howell retired early from a career in real estate to spend more time with her teenage boys, and to pursue her lone passion--painting. She, too, has felt for some time that something is missing from her world.
The Cottage is the story of two women pulled by a force stronger than their marriages, stronger than themselves. The story of Jill and Carrie. Two women. One love.

To Love and Lose?
I want to start off by saying that I love Gerri Hill. The Cottage however, was not one of my favorite books by this wonderful writer. It was a book full of the question "Is it better to love and lose or never love at all?" It is a sad book in my opinion and if you are wanting a tear jerker, this book will do just fine! It is well written and the characters are very well developed but bottom line, this book is just depressing. I am not a big fan of knowing pretty much where a book is heading in the first chapter and I thought this book was predictable. Hill will remain one of my favorite authors but, The Cottage just didn't do it for me this time around.
Something different
This book does not follow the usual lesbian romance formula (girl meets girl, they go through some trials, tribulations, a few misunderstandings and then live happily ever after). I am a voracious reader of lesbian fiction and have read all of Gerri Hill's books. This book excels because of its' difference from the rest (a difference that I thought would make me NOT want to read it and surely NOT enjoy it). But I read The Cottage in one sitting...three hours and several tears later, I realized that this was the best book I'd read in while. It is beautifully written, touching and sad, yet joyous at the same time. I recommend this book to every fan of lesbian fiction.
Meant To Be
Most of us have probably met someone and within a few minutes felt like we had known her forever. That's what happens with Carrie and Jill in Gerri Hill's "The Cottage". Yes, the story is bittersweet. But wouldn't everyone like to experience the kind of love Gerri creates between these two women who were destined to find each other at just the "right" time? Jill gives Carrie that once in a lifetime love and devotion that we all dream about but not all of us find. And Carrie ... she helps Jill find the strength to take control of her life and seek out a new direction. Yes, you need to have some tissues handy as you read Jill's account of their time together, but it's well worth a few tears and red eyes and even sniffles to experience this special story of two women so meant to be ... so deeply in love. The Cottage is a bit of a departure for Gerri Hill but it is a beautifully written story that any romantic will enjoy. And perhaps it even reminds us that life is short so it's important to love as well as we can like everyday may be our last! Yet again, I highly recommend this and any other story written by lesbian fiction's finest author Gerri Hill.
