As interior designer Jay Burns watches her long-term relationship slowly unravel, she runs into--literally--landscape designer Drew Montgomery. As their paths cross, both professionally and personally, a friendship develops, one they each try to maintain despite the obvious attraction between them. But still, Jay is not willing to throw away an eight-year relationship, even when it becomes painfully obvious the end is near. The Rainbow Cedar is the journey of one woman struggling with the loss of love and commitment from one, and the possibility of finding it all again with someone new.

This is more like the Gerri Hill books I know and love
Gerri Hill's latest book, "The Rainbow Cedar," is reminiscent of her earlier novels, and that is a good thing.
I wasn't overly thrilled with her last two books--"The Cottage" and the Hunter sequel, "In the Name of the Father"--but this book has much going for it.
Jay meets Drew literally by accident in Austin, Texas. They are attracted to one another, but Jay's in the midst of an eight-year relationship, and Drew won't be the one to break up that relationship.
Jay's partner Katharine is a high-powered attorney, bucking to make partner and then strike out on her own. As a result of Katherine's ambition and workaholic ways, their relationship is on the rocks. And when a former lover of Katherine's comes in the picture, Jay can either stay and fight for what she has, or follow her heart.
My only dislike? Ah, the habit of authors ending their books too soon! That knocked one star off my rating.
A light read, a fun read, with enough sexual tension to keep you flipping to the next chapter.
Welcome back, Gerri! You've been missed.
What a FUN READ!!!
The characters in "The Rainbow Cedar" are similar to those found in "Gulf Breeze". They banter, they tease, they titilate. They make you laugh out loud at times and then breathe a deep "ahhhh".
There is no lesfic writer out there, in my opinion, who can transition from adventure/mystery/cop story to romance as well as Hill and lucky for me I enjoy all types of lesfic and Gerri Hill has never disappointed me with any of her books.
When I read "The Rainbow Cedar" I was smiling from the moment Jay "bumps" into Drew early in the story through to the last page. And I admit I laughed out loud more than a few times along the way. And when I got to "the end" I felt like I had just hung out with a couple of really cool friends and had an exceptionally good time!
And if that isn't enough, Hill does an excellent job of exploring the conflict and human emotion Jay feels as she faces the ending of one part of her life and the possibility of a whole new chapter. I'd say more but I don't want to spoil the story for you.
"The Rainbow Cedar" is truly worth reading and if you loved Pat and Carly in "Gulf Breeze", you're sure to love this one too. So give it a read. You'll be glad you did.
Well Done
This was the first Geri Hill book I've read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. She creates characters and settings with a depth that made me feel and see the story.
