Tamara Holifield's best friend Charlotte is pregnant and as such quite lonely in the country where she lives. When Charlotte's husband calls and asks her to visit for the weekend, Tamara is happy to go even if she does have to ride to the ranch with a stranger.

Russell doesn't mind doing a favor for his best friend Ty. After all, Ty and Charlotte are letting him stay with them on the weekends while his new house is being finished. When Ty asks him to pick up Charlotte's best friend and bring her to the ranch, Russell readily agrees. It isn't until he actually meets Tamara that he truly realizes what has happened.

Without Tamara or Russell even being aware of it, they have fallen hard for each other and that scares both of them, especially Tamara. She knows what she looks like and she knows the perception people have of her. Will Russell be able to handle that for the rest of their lives? After all, THE BLACKER THE BERRY, the sweeter the juice.

Lena Matthews definitely has a winner on her hands with THE BLACKER THE BERRY. This bad boy reeled me in from scene one and I didn't put it down until I was finished. I fell in love with Russell from the first moment he met Tamara and thought that he was at his most sexy when he was being photographed. Russell was definitely drool-worthy.

In true Lena Matthews' style, THE BLACKER THE BERRY has moments of absolute hilarity that had me laughing out loud. Tamara's attitude and wise comments delighted me more than once, and I found myself actually wincing in anticipation of her reactions to different situations. Most of all, however, I loved watching her take a chance on Russell and his love. That was the sweetest moment of all.

THE BLACKER THE BERRY is emotionally charged, erotic, and wonderfully written. Ms. Matthews continues to hold her spot on my list of automatic reads and it is books like THE BLACKER THE BERRY that keep her there!

I LOVED THE BLACKER THE BERRY! IT WAS AN AWESOME BOOK...BY THE TIME I WAS DONE READING I WANTED A COWBOY TOO! I ESPECIALLY LOVED THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TAMARA AND RUSSELL. THE SPARKS JUST KEEP FLYING BETWEEN THESES TWO. TAMARA BEING A PLUS SIZE WOMAN AND RUSSELL USUAL ATTRACTION TO SKINNY WOMEN MADE THERE RELATIONSHIP EVEN BETTER. RUSSELL IS AN ALPHA MALE AFTER MY OWN HEART. AND TAMARA WAS A WOMAN WHO KNEW WHAT SHE WANTED AND HOW TO GET IT. SHE DID NOT NEED A MAN TO VALIDATE WHO SHE WAS. I LOVED THE WAY RUSSELL CHASED HER UNTIL HE WAS ABLE TO CLAIM HER!

This was a different look a romance to me. I have not read many books on BWWM that involve cowboys who naturally sexy . Sexy literally leaks from their pores. Tamara a freelance photographer, an ordinary young woman fighting the fight of weight control and age. Russel on the other hand was lawyer turning cowboy that was having his home built out on ranch so he could fulfill his life and leave his law days behind. Tamara met the Russel at the wedding of her best friend Charlotte and Ty the best friend of Russel. They met up again sometime later when Russel agreed to give Tamara a ride to the ranch to lighten the mood of her very pregnant friend Charlotte. Russel had forgotten that he had once met this quick witted plus-size beauty. Sparks immediately fly immediately as two are put in the same vicinity of one another. It was a beautiful tale to watch unfold these two try to fight the ever losing battle of attraction. Sexy,crazy, scortching,red hot love scenes are ones to be remembered.
