WOW cant wait to read the next one!!!!!
Book One of the Guardians' League is off to a great start. "Hunted" by Amelia Elias is quite simply one heck of a ride. Diego Leonides is one of the Guardians, a born vampire sworn to protect mortals and fight outcasts (evil vampire's who kill their prey enabling them to get around in the daylight). He has lived for 1000 yrs and has been able, in all that time, to stay happily unmated. Until of course, by accident (she hits him with her car) he meets Sian Lazuro. Injured and unconscious, Diego decides it would be safer to take Sian to his home. There he plans to, with his abilities, heal her wounds, erase her memory and send her on her way. That is, of course, until he notices the next day the tattoo that signifies they are bonded mates. Having no idea how this happened he knows that he has no other choice but to except this. Now he has to explain to an unconscious Sian not only how she came to be in his bed, but also they are now mated, forever....
If that's not enough Sian is running for her life, because of her testimony a murderer was convicted and sentenced to prison. A sentence he has yet to served, because right after the trial he escaped. At the same time, descendants of vampire slayers who wiped out Diego's family are back and after him. If they don't kill each other first, they may just have a chance to beat their enemies.
If you like Christine Feehan's, Carpathians, and Sherrilyn Kenyon's, Hunters. You are in for a real treat with Amelia Elias new Guardian series.
First book by Amelia Elias but it won't be my last!
Sian Lazuro is getting tired of running for her life. Several years ago, she witnessed a brutal murder and after testifying was put in the Witness Protection Program. Suspicious after having been found several times, she eventually left on her own, and has been in San Francisco for six months. Only, she thinks she has been found again. While she is attempting to lose a sedan tailing her, she accidentally hits a man with her car, injuring herself in the process.
Diego Leonides is out minding his own business, chasing down an outcast vampire, when he gets hit by a car. When he sees the injured driver, he decides to take her home with him to heal her head injury. Diego is a centuries old vampire, who has dedicated his life to killing the outcast vampires who drain their victims dry. He is a slayer for the Guardians' League and is a protector of both humans and vampires. He is also the patriarch of his clan and although he is now the only member of his clan, he must fulfill his duty and provide heirs. He has resisted for over a century, but in Sian he finds his bondmate, the one woman who can complete him, whether he likes it or not.
Sian and Diego initially have quite a few barriers to their union. Sian can't afford to trust anyone and Diego doesn't like the fact that both of their choices are taken away with the bonding. Added to their personal complications is the man who wants Sian dead for testifying against him and a variety of outcast vampires and vampire hunters who want Diego to pay for being a slayer. Sian and Diego must come to the realization that together, they can defeat any enemy.
I loved reading Hunted; it was quite simply a beautiful story with amazing characters. Diego is the perfect man for Sian, after his initial reluctance, he realizes he cannot live without her and sets out to convince her to be with him. Sian is incredibly vulnerable because of her past and watching her slowly learn to trust again was lovely to read about. When Sian gives in to her feelings for Diego, their passion is hot enough to set the sheets on fire! James, Diego's steward, is both hilarious with his quips and admirable for his commitment to Diego and he adds yet another layer to Hunted. There are several interesting secondary characters introduced in Hunted and I will be anxiously waiting to see if their stories are told in the future. This was my first book by Amelia Elias, but it won't be my last!!

While not entirely unique, "Hunted" does break a few rules of many popular vampire series'
The Guardians' League Series:
Hunted
Outcast
Chosen
Amelia Elias has created a thoroughly sexy band of vampires who protect the human world from evil beings. This isn't a very unique idea in today's world of paranormal romance, but she did a good job of finding a few ways to make her fantasy world different from the others. The Guardians' League is a race of vampires who hunt and kill enemies known as "Outcasts". The Outcasts are vampires who drink from humans to the point of causing death. The Guardians must feed as well, but they cause no permanent harm. In this sense, The Guardians are much like Sherrilyn Kenyon's "Dark Hunters". While saving humans from evil, Guardians must also fight a league of vampire slayers that are a bit reminiscent of J.R. Ward's "Lesser Society". However, The Guardians' world is different in the fact that humans can be changed into vampires by consuming vampire blood. That is quite rare in contemporary vampire tales. Also, Elias's vampire slayers are human Knights Templar who believe that there is no such thing as a "good vampire". They kill both Outcasts and Guardians in God's name.
Diego is a member of The Guardians' League. He spends his nights saving humankind from the Outcasts. As the last vampire in his family line, the governing counsel of The League has commanded that he must take the next woman he shares a bed with as his bondmate. Only then can he have children to continue his bloodline. Diego isn't thrilled with the idea of giving up his freedom. To avoid becoming bonded, he has remained celibate for over a century.
Sian is a former police officer. She had to give up everything to enter the witness protection program. A murderer whom she testified against has broken free of prison. He has stocked her for three years.
The murderer has managed to track her down again. While speeding through the night to avoid being captured, Sian is horrified when she runs over a man on the street. When she next wakes, she is in bed with him. He claims to be a vampire. He also tells her that she is his mate. Sian is certain Diego is insane.
Diego has his work cut out for him. The leader of the league council has declared that Sian is to be Diego's bondmate. Now he must convince Sian of what he is without frightening her away. His bigger challenge is keeping her safe from his enemies who would use her get to him, and from her own enemy who seeks her death. To make things even harder, he can't keep Sian from running away and putting herself within their enemies' grasp. As days pass, Diego is shocked by his own growing possessiveness. His only hope is to win Sian's heart so that he can live with her in peace.
Overall "Hunted" was a good story. I got a bit bored towards the end and found myself wanting to get through the last chapter and epilogue so that I could read a more exciting Christine Feehan "Carpathian" book. The action was too rare and when it did happen it was far too short. Also, the hero and heroine in "Hunted" were too typical to keep me rapt. He's a male vampire who suffers from the loss of his family through the centuries. (I wish the author had dipped further into his emotions. They were skimmed over, which killed my chances of feeling that sorrowful connection.) She's a pushy and pissed off human female who spends most of the book fighting with him.
On a good note, Elias writes terrifically steamy love scenes. She also paints a clear picture of the surrounding environment in each location the characters encounter. Her "good guy" side characters are intriguing and they make you look forward to future editions of this series. Her "bad guys" didn't receive enough time in the story, which a shame because they were interesting too.
