Product Description

Robert and Sam are back in this sequel to On Fire! Fire Chief Robert is completely unaware that Sam is having trouble with the residents of their small Canadian town. He doesn't hear any of the barbs that come Sam's way about them living together in an openly gay relationship. Much younger and not as well-loved by the whole town, Sam feels pretty much like an outsider, and things get rougher for him when Robert has an accident on the job. Sam finds out that some folks would prefer to see him gone, and some feel like he's not such a great influence on his third grade students. When Robert finds out about Sam's troubles, he sets out to put things right, working toward finding Sam the acceptance he so desperately craves, both in the community and in their own home. Can Robert make Sam understand how much he cares? Can Sam handle the new demands placed on his life by Robert's new commitment? Drew Zachary has created a wonderful pair of lovers and partners in the On Fire series, leading the reader through the everyday details of a couple who are still on fire for each other no matter what. On Fire 2: Still Burning opens a window on a life, and love, that are worth it, no matter how much Sam and Robert get burned.

Hot Read5
This is an excellent follow-up to the M/M romance, On Fire. We join Robert and Sam seven years after they first fall for one another. Robert is almost 40, and Sam 28. They are established in their community, and while they are still blissfully in love, little things begin picking at their happiness.

There is prejudice (almost a necessity in angst-filled gay romance) but it's not extreme, a bit of jealousy and self-doubt. The wedding preparation provides a lot of humor throughout the story. No, the plot is not deep, but it keeps a reader turning the pages between the frequent steaming hot sex scenes. Our couple is still burning up the sheets, and I wouldn't mind reading another sequel.

A fabulous follow-up and delightful characters who grow on you.5
If you love On Fire, you will love the sequel. 7 years later, Sam and Robert are just as loving despite the 14 years age gap and their sex just as hot, playful and delightful. Sam may have matured (I thought both writers have done a fine job here developing his personality), but he is still his endearing self with his little quirks and insatiable sexual appetite. Robert may be approaching 40 but remains unwaveringly Sam's own protective and loving hunk. We have a good storyline here where the couple has to deal with a few homophobic feelings in their small town and Robert's injury. Chris and Vic have given us a wonderful sequel. Sam's and Robert's steadfast love for each other is most heart warming and the problems they face as a couple living together are so well written. The preparation for the wedding is an engaging read and the story setting being in British Columbia is of course the icing on the cake. On Fire burns just as brightly in this sequel.

A consistent continuation of On Fire4

Rating: 7/10

PROS:
- Endearing characters beautifully devoted to each other.
- Funny, cute moments that speak of a strong, established relationship. As rare as it is these days to see two people stay together as long as 7 years, Zachary does well showing a long-standing couple who are still very much in love.
- Didn't really like the way the idea of a wedding comes about, but I loved the wedding itself (well, basically, the whole resolution).

CONS:
- Some glaring editing issues. Typos, yes, but anyone who reads much of this genre learns to look past those; this book has some actual inconsistencies. For example, in Chapter 1, Robert describes Sam's hair as "tipped with pink just now" and then two pages later as "blond hair cut funny but not sporting any color."
- More conflict in this one than in the first, but Zachary doesn't do as much with it as I expected him/her to. There's very little tension between the two characters about one particular issue (which seemed unrealistic to me, but admittedly, I didn't really WANT them to fight).
- Lots of sex that gets repetitive...but it occurs approximately every other chapter, so repetitiveness is only natural, I suppose.

Overall comments: Definitely a worthwhile read if you read and liked the first On Fire--Zachary kept the characters very consistent from the first volume to the second. Not for you if you're looking for a book with a substantive plot.
