Nathaniel is a cop, assigned to protect professor and well-known writer Asher Munro. Asher has been receiving threats, and as the situation gets worse and worse, Nathaniel and Asher have to spend a lot of time together, for Asher's protection. Their attraction goes far beyond what a policeman should feel for someone under his care, so Nathaniel denies what he feels, even when Asher confronts him with his own needs. Someone wants Asher dead, though, and Nathaniel wants the man very much alive. Can they keep Asher safe and deal with what they feel for each other?

Sleeping with the Past
Professor Asher Munro has been getting threatening letters but he's ignoring them. Asher's teaching assistant, Ellie Holden, is concerned so she takes the latest one to her dad, Detective Nathaniel Holden, who in turn pays a visit to Asher. Every time Nathaniel sees Asher his desire for him grows. He's way in the closet and he plans to stay there. Then Asher is attacked and Nathaniel becomes Asher's bodyguard. While Nathaniel is trying to keep his hands off of Asher, Asher is letting Nathaniel know that the feeling is mutual. However, Asher is still in danger. If Nathaniel can't stop the threat, he'll never know what might have been.
Sleeping with the Past is a great story with a suspenseful plot. Asher and Nathaniel are very compatible. They are passionate and fun. They're great guys. Nathaniel's hesitation creates just enough angst to keep things intense but not overwhelming. Sleeping with the Past has a good ending too, but I want more! Asher and Nathaniel have so much more to tell!

Asher Munro is a literature professor at a college in a small-town. He has another career as a mystery writer and he is brilliantly successfully. He is also an openly gay activist. Suddenly he begins to receive threatening letters and he assumes that he has offended someone and simply ignores the matter. However, his assistant Ellie thinks differently and she asks her father, Nathaniel, a handsome detective to help. Nat is a single father and gay but in the closet. He is assigned to Asher and as they spend a lot of time together. They discover that they are attracted to each other but because that attraction on Nat's part is more than what a cop should feel for a person he is taking care of, he denies that it is there even when Asher confronts him. It appears that someone wants Asher dead but Nathaniel wants him very much alive. The plot revolves around whether the two men can deal with their feelings and stay alive. Nathaniel knows that if he can't stop the threats, he'll never know what could have been.
This is a sweet book with no sex but a lot of sexual tension. You can't help but like Asher and Nathaniel and I found myself rooting for them. There is a lot of suspense in the detective plot and with Nathaniel's angst things become very exciting. The ending is open so we might expect a sequel.
Predicatable Story. Cliched Writing.
This book is predictable from the first page of cliched writing. there is not imagination and this story has been done to death. The writing looked like a combination of many romance novels all rolled into this book.
I knew what each chapter was going to be before reading. eg. the closeted cop is protecting a gay professor, of course they both have feelings for each other but hide them. So where does the cop take the professor for protection?......you guessed it....his secluded cabin by the lake.
I could have written this story myself.
Boring beyond belief.
