Average customer review:Product Description
Otherworlds brings together the work of two American artists from different generations—Nancy Spero and Kiki Smith. The book explores thematic connections in their work—the female body, myth and fantasy, the "decorative‚" and situates them in the context of post-War American art and social movements, and feminist and cultural theory.
Both artists reclaim the female body as an expressive vehicle of emancipation and desire, and both employ fantasy and decoration to subversive ends. Spero’s work explores the potential recording of space and architecture through a visual poetics of word and image. Kiki Smith treats the body in/as process, creating iconic female figures that threaten to revert to a fluid or skeletal state.

Customer Reviews
Highly Recommended
Otherworlds is outstanding. A lot of visuals, including Kiki Smith pieces not found
in her other books.
It was a good choice to juxtapose Smith with Nancy Spero. The two sensibilities
complement one another.
As a fine artist, I'm very happy that I came across this book!
