She deftly explores other themes, ranging from fortune cookies to female sexuality (go figure!), and everything is neatly encompassed in this sharply-designed art book. Julie Doucet is internationally renowned for her wry, sexually-charged work, a sort of "female R. Crumb" of comics. She is the author of four books, including the 2000 Firecracker Award-Winner `My New York Diary`.

Julie Doucet is best known as author of Dirty Plotte, the title she's worked on for the past eight years, first as a self-published mini-comic and later as a regular full-size series. Her initial foray into the manly world of comics earned Doucet a Harvey Award in 1991 for Best New Talent. Doucet's work, characterized by its intense, obsessively-detailed drawing style and sometimes unsettling subject matter, has always been controversial: several of her comics have been seized by customs officials in Canada and England, at a time when The New York Times called her "a widely admired young cartoonist". Doucet, who was born in 1965 in Montreal, has had four books published, Lift Your Leg, My Fish Is Dead! (1993), My Most Secret Desire (1995), My New York Diary (1999) and The Madame Paul Affair (2000). As well, translated editions of her comics have appeared in Germany and Finland. Outside of print, her original art has been exhibited in several cities in the United States, Canada, France, and Portugal. Keeping up with all of this, Doucet is currently living in Montreal, where she continues the printmaking work she began with Long Time Relationship.
