A sprawling tale of love and adventure in the Old West.
When she was very young, Leona Trask's mother died, leaving her with the task of raising her four younger brothers. Leo yearned to be free, to ride the vast empty spaces of the open West and escape the endless drudgery of running a farm. It was a hard life, and every night she tumbled into bed exhausted to dream of freedom.
Then Cordy rode into her life. A free spirit, a loner, who would take off without warning, Leo resented her for her freedom, yet at the same time Cordy awakened feelings in her--feelings she couldn't explain or comprehend. As the endless poverty of farm life drew Leo's father into the outlaw world of train robbing, Leo shouldered more of the responsibility of keeping her little family together--and she burned with resentment that Cordy was part of the gang--treated as equal to the men.
A kiss awakens Leo's inner passion, and sends her on a journey to find Cordy; a journey that is also one of self-discovery.
Thousands of fans have already discovered Peggy Herring's novels, making her one of the top sellers of lesbian romance. With DISTANT THUNDER, an epic adventure of love and romance set in the Old West, she cements her reputation as one of the best lesbian romance writers of our time.

Customer Reviews
This lady is a natural
This is Ms. Herring's first try at a western, and I have to let everyone know how impressed I am by this novel! The interaction within the family in this book was great, believable. The writing is excellently done, and there were no errors to be hand.
Once again, like in her two latest books, Beyond All Reason and The Comfort Of Strangers, I was not disappointed by Peggy J. Herring's talent.
Distant Thunder
This book was so well written, it touched off feelings in me that I had forgotten I had. I felt like I knew the characters personally. I wanted to scream at them, slap them, hug them, and laugh with them. It was a tastefully sensual book that awakened all of my emotions. I could have read on and on, if the book hadn't ended.
Well done, Ms. Herring. Even though it was your first Western, you wrote it like you have been writing Westerns all of your life. It was so realistic, I felt the dust on my face and the gun in my hand.
I anxiously await your upcoming novels.
A disappointment
Cordy and Leona meet because their fathers become bandits and rob trains together. Eventually, bad luck hits the trio of bandits (Cordy's father, Leona's father and his brother--Leona's uncle) and they attempt to rob a train with U.S. marshals as passengers. They get caught and end up in jail where two of them die from beatings and subsequent poor health. Meanwhile, Leona is left at the ranch and faces having to raise her four younger bothers. The disappointment comes when more than half way through the book, it is not Leona and Cordy who start a romance. Leona has a romance with one of Cordy's lovers. It's with Maria (who at the time of being Cordy's lover is married to an abusive husband) that Leona has a romance and is eventually paired with. This transition was not smooth and seemed unrealistic to me, even if this is fiction. And the resolution to Cordy's role left me even more unsatisfied.
