Editorial Reviews

Review

Alex Draven, Editor of the High Ball imprint writes: Rob Knight can't possibly have known when he put this anthology together that anyone would be reading the first story, Dallas Coleman's Stormclouds, with the backdrop of Hurricaine Katrina on the news and in their mind. It's certainly an unsettling starting place, because Coleman produces an excellent understated tale of just exactly why you should never stay angry with someone you love--and I almost said 'account' because everything about this short story's relationships feels solidly true.

All in all, Rob Knight has, once again, put together a stunning anthology of short stories, each one complimenting without imposing on the others, and covering a real range of moods and settings. An excellent and enjoyable read.

Customer Reviews

An amazing introduction to the genre5
I was recommened this anthology by a friend as a good first book to try in the m/m erotica genre, and WOW, I was blown away! I enjoyed every single story, and I can honestly say that that has never been true of any kind of anthology I've read before. I liked some more than others - Stormclouds, Dry Bones and Surrender were exceptional - but I didn't dislike any of them. All were instantly engaging *and* believeable in a very short space, whereas so many other anthology stories I've read have not been able to pull that off.

I was also pleasantly surprised at how romantic the stories were - I appreciated the hot sex, but was really hooked by the depth of emotion portrayed within such a broad range of characters. I even teared up several times, and in my head all of the couples who might live happily ever after, do.

Kudos, also, to editer Rob Knight, who put them all together for me. I will absolutely be recommending this to friends, but I'm not sharing my copy!

Cowboy gay romance at its best!5
This amazing collection from Torquere press is a must have for us into M/M romance. From the relatively lighted hearted "Barn Dance" by BA Tortuga to the poignant "This Legacy in My Hands" by Vic Winter, there is not a lame one in this collection. Each one is well written filled with angst and emotional content and of course the hot sex. My favorite is Dry Bones by Parhelion, which is just a few notches above the rest. This is a gem of a story which left me wishing for more. The highly charged "Stomclouds" by D Coleman is a close second followed by "Above Snakes" by AM Riley about overcoming fear of being a gay cowboy. "Surrender" by J Lane is a delightful read and there is just something in "The Gaucho Code" by J Talbot which just tugs at my heart strings. Definitely a collection to be treasured.

Save a Horse: Ride A Cowboy!5
Wow! Rob Knight found some truly HOT stories here. I liked them all and felt they all had not only sizzling sex, but, more importantly, some really good plot lines. Some of them should have been written as full length books, especially my favorite: Jourdan Lane's "Surrender." Hot, sexy cowboys steaming with mutual attraction and, at the same time, serious conflicts between them. Lane's story could well be the core of a much longer, even more satisfying book developing not only the two protagonists but a couple of the secondary characters as well. Not all of the stories ended "happily ever after," but they were satisfying in their conclusions. This book is well worth a try, and it will prove to be hard (so to speak) to put down.
