The hardworking Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball star in the urbane and witty Forever Darling, a 1956 romantic comedy, made at the height of the couple's popularity as co-stars of I Love Lucy, about the difficulty of forging marital harmony. Arnaz plays unpretentious, visionary chemist Lorenzo "Larry" Vega, whose passion for working on a powerful chemical insecticide for the benefit of humankind means little to his wife, Susan (Ball). A creature of high society, Susan is conflicted about her destiny. Should she be concerned with acquiring a bigger house and socializing with the right people, or should she follow Larry as he takes his insecticide on a two-year field study in tropical jungles? Attempting to guide her toward the right decision is a dapper, guardian angel, who happens to take the form of James Mason because Mason is Susan's fantasy man. The script by Helen Deutsch (I'll Cry Tomorrow) indulges I Love Lucy fans with plenty of slapstick set pieces plugged into an extended camping scene. But there's also some flashy banter--Arnaz is very convincing putting well-heeled snobs in their place--and a very clever sequence in which Susan imagines herself as the heroine in a movie she happens to be watching. (A movie starring, yes, James Mason.) There's a fun, special feature in which Arnaz and Ball take time out from production on their television show to plug Forever Darling and reveal the secret of a truly happy marriage--and then get into a beef. --Tom Keogh

A hilarious Lucy-Desi classic!
This movie is the better of the two Lucy and Desi made together. (The other was The Long, Long Trailer. I loved that one too, but I loved this one more!)This movie had me laughing so hard my stomach hurt! Lucy and Desi are an unbeatable team. Lucille Ball was born to be in Technicolor. She looks absolutely gorgeous in it, with her fiery red hair, intense blue eyes, and four corner, blood-red lips. Desi looks darkly handsome with his jet-black hair, great brown eyes, and deeply tanned skin. The two can really act. Think of this movie as an I Love Lucy in color, but with beautiful scenery and James Mason, Susan's(Lucy's) guardian angel. I cannot believe that back in 1956 when Lucy and Desi made this film that it was panned. It kept me laughing till the end! The story is simple: Susan and Larry Vega think their marraige is on the rocks, so Susan's guardian angel, James Mason, advises her to go on a business trip with him, and everything works out well between the two, with minor(but hilarious!)setbacks along the way. Forever Darling is a must-see for any Lucille Ball/Desi Arnaz fan.
A great slapstick comedy!
Susan (Lucille Ball) and Lorenzo "Larry" Vega (Desi Arnaz) have been married for over five years and they are starting to drift apart. One night, Susan's guardian angel appears, who happens to look just like movie star James Mason and only she can see him. He tells Susan that there's a bumpy road ahead for her and Larry if they don't work their problems out. Meanwhile, Larry, who is a scientist, is developing an insecticide at Finlay Vega Chemical Company and plans to test it on an upcoming camping trip. Susan thinks that this is good chance to spend some time together, so she goes along on the trip with him. Once they get there, it doesn't take long for the expedition to turn into one mishap after the other!
Like I've said before, Lucy and Desi were a wonderful duo on screen together. Forever Darling is no exception. It's a hilarious comedy for the whole family. Highly recommended!
A funny, touching movie with lots of fun and some laughs.
Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz star in this great, all Lucy movie. Lucy and Desi play a married couple who think their marriage is in a rut. But Lucy's gaurdian angel (James Mason) shows up and after lots of trying, their marriage is saved. The movie is a little long, and gets a little bit boring towards the end, but I would say this is a must see, must have. I't a true Lucille Ball classic, something to treasure and enjoy watching.
