48 Hours in Reverse
I saw this film to see supa-hottie Sonny Landham. As usual, he plays a hypermasculine, aggressive, character. Just as in "Predator" and "48 Hours," you get to see some of his muscular chest here. His fate is the same as in the grand majority of his oeuvre.
This was filmed in Chicago and I loved seeing sights still existent in my hometown. Still, this film was poor-quality. It's the type of thing you'd see on regular or cable television when they want to kill time between important programs. It had a weak script, bad dialogue, and bad acting. In the beginning of the film, when a minor character is shot, first blood spills forward, then his body pushes back. The movie is supposed to be about the actions of a Colombian drug lord and Mexico is mentioned, yet the whole film takes place in Chicago, not even Miami. Mr. Williamson shows himself off in blue bikini briefs, in a blaxploitation-like scene, but he's too cowardly to show more.
This film is the opposite of "48 Hours." There, a white cop needs the help of a Black inmate. However, Eddie Murphy's character knew a secret about the crime; in this film, Bo Svenson is practically picked for no reason at all. This is a forced interracial buddy flick that was pat in many ways. In the opposite of "Predator" in which a Black federal employee tricks the white main character, a white federal employee tricks the Black main character here. Regardless of race, many of the actors had long faces with high cheekbones and sallow cheeks. I wonder if it's due to their middle age or if it were a filmic mistake by the director.
Though this film was made in the early 1990s, it had a 1980s feel to it. You may want to put on some leg warmers, perform some breakdancing moves, and listen to "Thriller" as you watch this film.
