Editorial Reviews
From The New Yorker
Director Bruno Barreto and actor Stephen Baldwin make an honorable attempt to return to the world of gritty police dramas like "Serpico," but they ignore the fact that stuff like this is done well each week on TV shows like "NYPD Blue." The film, about the real-life New York detective Bo Dietl (Baldwin) and his partner (Chris Penn) and the problems that develop with a crime-family friend (Michael McGlone), allows the actors plenty of room to create characters that are rich in urban angst, but the material is too familiar to give off much heat. Baldwin has bulked up for the role and delivers a quietly centered performance that gives the movie what little surprise it has. -Bruce Diones
