Customer Reviews
Aren't we just supposed to be friends?
I enjoyed Courting Courtney.
Though I may just be biased because I have been a fan of Dana Gould for about 4 years. Late bloomer in that department I know. This movie attracts indie flimmakers, bleeding heart 20somethings, "nice" guys, "nice" girls and the classic guy/gal... ain't we just friends? Okay it is bare bones, but that is grand in my book. It has the feeling of a play. Hey you will recognize some names in the cast, so there.
Get the film, get a bag o' snacks, grab your other half and be glad that's done or drown your empathetic heart into the chocolate bar ya just bought.

Have fun recognizing So Cal lo-cals! Lookout for the freeway overpass! Yikes!
Check-Out This GEM!!
So many times I rent/buy big budget studio films only to get burned. It forces me to look around at some titles I may not be so familiar with in the hopes of discovering a gem. With COURTING COURTNEY I struck GOLD! The film's plot bogs down at points, and it looks (is?) low budget indie. But the performances by KATHY GRIFFIN, DANA GOULD, TAYLOR NEGRON, CHRIS HARDWICK, RYAN STILES and ANA GASTEYER are just fantastic. The script is terrifically witty, and the film itself is filled with laughs (your existance as a film fan isn't complete until you've witnessed the infamous SPANKING SCENE!!) I only wonder if Mr. Tarantino has been taking notes on my life! CHECK IT OUT!
Festival Gold
I first saw this film at the Rotterdam International Film Festival in 1997, having spent quite a bit of time at festivals stuck watching films that seemingly have no intention in doing what I believe films are meant to do first and foremost - entertain. Then, due to a last minute schedule change, I happened upon this film COURTING COURTNEY and what a lucky twist of fate it was. This film has charm to spare and never forgets it's primary objective - to keep the audience engaged! After the screening, filmmaker Paul Tarantino spoke and was every bit as entertaining as his film. So many times these festival gems are lost in the distribution shuffle so I was glad to see it being released at all much less on DVD...with audio commentary! The film itself is a treasure of amusing characters. But I can tell you as a veteran of the film business and as an aspiring filmmaker that the commentary is priceless to other would-be filmmakers working with no budget but boatloads of passion. And Tarantino's jovial personality rings out - he should appear in one of his future films. Reportedly made for under $30,000 the film looks and feels far beyond it's budget and contains many recognizable faces including: KATHY GRIFFIN, RYAN STILES, JULIA SWEENEY, and ANA GASTEYER. To be sure this gem is not without it's blemishes - the story is fairly predictable, and some of the acting is standard sit-com, but it delivers lots of laughs and heart - and who can get enough of that? I would normally give the film a 4 star rating but opted here for 5 because of the commentary.
