Christmas Music in a Variety of Styles
If you like your Christmas music traditional, if you never tire of hearing Bing Crosby crooning "White Christmas" or Nat "King" Cole's rendition of "The Christmas Song" for the zillionth time, then this is an album you definitely want to stay away from. Don't get me wrong, I love the old faithful songs (and I watch "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" at least once every year), but if you're in the mood for some non-traditional music for a change, the fine folks at Rounder have the perfect album for you.
Some of the top names in folk and bluegrass music offer gorgeous instrumentals: David Grisman, John Fahey, and Bill Keith. You get the soulful blues of Charles Brown's "Blue Holiday." George Thorogood charges through the rollicking "Rock & Roll Christmas." Riders in the Sky do it the cowboy way on "Christmas at the Triple X Ranch." But my all-time favorite is Brave Combo's "Must Be Santa Polka." The only real mistep is Joseph Spence's Tom Waits-meets-Otis the drunk's vocal on "Santa Claus Is Coming to TOwn."
If you like the idea of Christmas music coming from rock, blues, polka, bluegrass and cowboy music, this album is a pure delight. HIGHLT RECOMMENDED
A Near Perfect Collection
Fun songs. Serious Songs. Songs of the Season. Christmas songs.
I've given this as a gift several times and always received a Ho-Ho-Ho! in return. Give yourself a treat, you've been good...
It must be Santa has a wonderful mix
This cd is one of my favorites! Its hard to put it away after the holidays. Brave Combo is such a fun group and gets us all in the spirit to have fun - so many other artists add a mixture of bluegrass, old-timey, modern and traditional favorites. I love Mary McCaslin and all the others who contribute to this wonderful collection of music.
