FOLK MUSIC AT ITS BEST
This recording is Classic Folk Music at its BEST. Judy Collins is Fantastic on this one. Every song is a piece of folk history. There are songs of love and songs of hope and even great whaling tales. This one is recorded live at the Newport Folk Festival. Listen to the history, from a true folk legend. Every tune strikes a great chord.
A great and versatile voice
Leonhardt playing Bach is more my line than that broad category called popular music. Nevertheless, Judy Collins breaks through all the categories through sheer virtuosity and style. 'Anethea' is basically the same plot as Shakespeare's MEASURE FOR MEASURE, and here it is, prefaced and concluded with howls of grief: scalp-tingling. 'Turn, turn, turn' is an audacious adaptation of that most beautiful of Biblical books, Ecclesiastes, and is one of the loveliest songs I know. I am not ashamed to say that it helped me through a period of personal grief. This is a marvellous album to start with, though I think FOREVER is perhaps the definitive collection.
