Customer Reviews

Pretty good, but not what I had expected.4
When I purchased "Caribbean Surf" (billed as "The Relaxing Sounds of Nature") I had expected a CD along the lines of Dan Gibson's excellent "Solitude's" line of work--natural sounds with relaxing music mixed in later.

Instead, this CD is 99% sounds of nature with just a hint of music occasionally drifting in and easing its way into your consciousness.

You can't blame them for false advertising. The back of the case says, and I quote, "Close Your Eyes...Relax. Listen as the desolate sandy beaches are lapped by the warm inviting waters of the Caribbean Surf. Build a sand castle...Listen to the palm trees swishing in the tropical breeze. Let the stress of modern living dissolve to the soothing sounds of the Caribbean Surf."

In other words, they made no claim about music, so it was my fault for expecting it. And it certainly is relaxing to listen to. However, the surf is occasionally just a bit too loud to relax to. Hence, this CD by the Madacy Music Group receives 4 stars.

Something unusual in surf sounds4
Amidst all the temperate zone surf recordings, this one adds a very distant steel drum band, just on the edge of audible, and an occasional jungle bird. Occasional -- it does not sound like someone threw pakalolo seed in the aviary, but realistic, like the jungle next to the apartment I used to live in. I don't use these for sleeping, but for mood and to drown neighborhood noise while I work. This one feels warm and sunny.

A little disappointed3
Like the last reviewer, I carefully inspected the cover and it made no mention of music. I was disappointed to hear any at all. It's true that it's fairly unobtrusive, but I was looking forward to water sounds, wind in trees and perhaps the occasional wildlife sounds, not music.

I'll keep looking.
