Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com essential recording
Nakai's first recording of Native flute music, originally released in a limited edition of 250 cassettes, taps into something deeply spiritual in the human psyche. There are traditional Native songs from the Zuni, Lakota, and Blood tribes, but most of the material is original, inspired by Nakai's travels throughout the Southwest. The tone of Nakai's flute is always full and warm; it caresses your ears like the memory of a summer breeze. Yet despite the measured tempos and the pastoral mood, there is an energetic quality to the improvisations that makes the heart want to spread its wings and take flight. Nakai's success shows once again how powerful simple, folk-based melodies can be when they're played by a master musician. --j. poet

Authentic Indian flute music5
This is the first CD that I bought of Carlos Nakai back in the early 80's. I liked it because Carlos is true to his roots with this CD. If you're looking for just flute, this is one of the best you will find.

Nothing fancy, a good flute album, worth owning4
For your money you get 15 selections of flute music, nothing synthesized or electronic, not complicated stuff.
I'm not sure how authentic a "sound" you're getting here, the notes indicate that many of the selections are original Nakai compositions, but it all sounds good.
Nothing fancy and generally not fast paced, most of the selections are under 3 minutes in length, just pure flute music the way I want it.

Carlos Nakai's "Changes"4
I got this CD to replace an old 8track cassette tape I purchased on my first trip out to Santa Fe, New Mexico in the mid-eighties. I've used the tape in my pottery classes ever since to give a certain atmosphere to the studio when we first explore pinching clay. It was beautiful and worked well until it finally died this winter, after playing for years, probably from too much clay dust in the tape.

I LOVE THE CD AND HOPE IT HOLDS UP EVEN BETTER.
