Customer Reviews

Excellent5
If you are only going to own one CD of Mariachi music, then do your pocketbook a favor & purchase this CD. Its the best CD put out by the 4th Generation line-up, as it contains the best versions of most of the music interpreted here (La Malaguena, Son de la Negra, etc.,). As a side note, Vargas has issued several CDs since this one that have not made it through the distribution channels in the U.S. or Mexico! One of these albums, Penas-Desenganos y Amores, has the version of "El Cascabel" from the PBS special "Mariachi Spirit of Mexico" It is a real shame/loss if the greatest Mariachi cannot get distributed. You can listen to clips from that CD on the Marichi Vargas website www.mariachivargas.com.mx - if you enjoy it then please join me in sending an e-mail to Amazon customer service to request the CD.

Unusually good Mariachi recording5
In my opinion this is the best recording by the current (4th Generation) line-up of "El Mejor Mariachi del Mundo." My only criticism is that there's only one "puro" Mariachi (son Jaliciense) tune on the disc, "La Negra." However, it is the very best and most exciting recording of that traditional son I've ever heard, (even better than versions under the direction of Silvestre Vargas;) worth the price of the CD by itself. Overall, this is a really pleasant tour of traditional central Mexico by the most important Mariachi ensemble.

Exceptionally entertaining from the BEST!5
In searching for some distinct marchiachi sounds, I decided to go to the source, a Mariachi band, and what better source than the band considered the best in the world, Mariachi Vargas, a tradition embarked 100 years ago. Instrumentally and vocally, the music is a wonderful ensemble of pure variations of traditional Mexican sounds.

The voices are solid, powerful and the selection is quite entertaining! This sounds crisp and clear with every note refined. You will hear various voices, solo and group which brings flavor to lyrics. I only wish a few songs were complete, such as "Las Feria de las Flores"; this one is so vivid, loud, fun, it deserves a complete track. Another one that's sampled is a very old polka style istrumental "Nochecitas Mexican" is so enjoyable hear and it is always danceable music.

If you desire a taste of Mexican classic mariachi music, what better way to acquire that than with the epitome of Mexican music, a mariachi band, the best! This is excellent!....MzRizz
