Ravishing performances!
This ensamble worked out as a perfect watch mechanism . But the presence of Szerying , Fournier and Kempff warns you about the artistic height of these notable musicians .
Every one of them is gifted with a deep musical sense . And that is very important due the particular conception of one work must have been motive of enriched discussions , and not the product of one only mind as usually happens in many chamber ensambles .
The final result is a very unusual set touched with the most fervent beethovenian spirit.
Superb performances of two great trios.
Beethoven's Archduke Trio is possible the greatest trio ever written and the Ghost Trio is also quite good. Every serious lover of classical music should have these works in their collection. This CD offers the opportunity to get outstanding performances of these two great trios on one CD at a bargain price. And the performances of these trios are indeed outstanding. Henryk Szeryng, although not a "celebity" musician, was one of the finest violinists of the 20th century. Pianist Wilhelm Kempff and cellist Jacque Fournier -- also not celebities -- were outstanding classical musicians thoroughly at home in the music of Beethoven. These three excellent musicians made many recordings together and and respond to each other and the music intuitively. You can spend more for The Archduke Trio played by big-name celebrities but the performances will probably not be better than on this bargain-priced CD -- and you probably won't get the excellent Ghost Trio included as a bonus.
