Sessions at his best
This is actually a very elegant CD. This is twelve tone composition at its best (and written by an American at that). If you wish Webern had written longer chamber works, (and perhaps with more aggressive dynamics) Sessions rounds out that need very neatly in these three works. These are exceptionally articulate and well executed pieces. Though the quality of his output is nothing to be depreciated, the Quartet and Quintet that are recorded on this disc have a distinctive appeal that is uncommon with Roger Sessions. It's more than a little likely that The Group for Contemporary Music can take some of the credit for that. Nonetheless, this might be Sessions at his best. I don't hesitate in recommending this CD.
MARVELOUS!
Major chamber works, stunning performances. A steal at this price
