The Camerata of the 18th Century is a superlative German chamber orchestra, and they turn in what just may be the best set of "Brandenburgs" on period instruments. These pieces have always been the Mount Everest of Baroque concertos on account of their variety and depth of expression. In fact, in the Fifth Concerto (for harpsichord solo and orchestra) Bach actually invented the keyboard concerto, and what a legacy this turned out to be! These great performances manage to convey something of the music's significance without ever obscuring its value as pure entertainment. I dare anyone to listen to this set and not come away both amazed AND smiling. --David Hurwitz

Exquisite performances
MDG brought Frans Bruggen's marvelous musicians for their recording of the Brandenburg Concertos. This is the *dream team* of Baroque Music> Konrad Hunteler, Roel Dieltiens, Jurgen Kussmaul, etc. These concertos don't come any better, and the sound is outstanding!
These Brandenburgs lift my spirit endlessly!!!
What a grand surprise to listen to these concertos...they surpass Pinnock's and I Musici's......and believe me, I cherish both of these performances. From the first note of Concerto # 1, I knew this would be something extra special. The musicianship is exemplary as the melodies still dance in my head. Kudos to the Camerata of the 18th Century under the guidance of Konrad Hunteler. This box set ranks in my Best Baroque List for the New Millenium, and even for all-time. I strongly recommend these performances.
