Customer Reviews
Should be in every Christmas music lover's collection.
What most people remember about the movie HOME ALONE is the slapstick comedy. Funny stuff to be sure but what made the film work so well was it's underlying drama. Director John Hughes set the story during the Christmas season to further exploit the drama of being seperated from your loved ones. For all the antics involved, HOME ALONE is first and foremost a Christmas movie. This setting gave composer John Williams the chance to write some of his most charming and festive music ever. The score is built upon William's lovely "Somewhere In My Memory" (lyrics by Leslie Bricusse) which was given a deserved oscar nomination. Here is a song that is a contemporary Christmas classic and should be a perrenial favorite. Here is an album that should be under every soundtrack and Christmas music lover's tree. It's one gift that is guaranteed to give years of enjoyment.
Great Christmas Music
This CD is absolutely great! I love Home Alone, it is my favorite, and in my opinion the next best Christmas movie of all time after Its a Wonderful Life. It is my favorite Christmas movie though. If you were born between the years of 1980 and 1985, this is one of THE movies of your childhood (The Mighty Ducks and The Goonies come in around there too). This is one of the movies of the 90's that will always be remembered as a 90's movie. Anyways, the CD is great. I love the music from the movie. The main theme/opening titles is just wonderful, magical Christmasy sounding music, almost reminiscent of the nutcracker suite thing. Somewhere in my Memory is a beautiful origional Christmas Carol for the movie that almost brings tears to my eyes when I hear it (I'm a man, I can't admit to crying because of a song). The Christmas songs (like White Christmas, I'll be Home for Christmas, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, etc) are great classics. This CD puts together great Classic Christmas songs with traditional Christmas Carols, an origional Carol made just for the movie, and great movie music. Its a must have if you like Christmas music or are a kid from the 90's and grew up watching Home Alone on NBC every Thanksgiving as I have. Merry Christmas!
Great music, in season, and out!
I must totally agree with the previous reviwers, about the beauty of this soundtrack. Much is said about Williams well known "Star "Wars", "E.T.", and "Superman" scores; but this (And the second one as well) beat all of them in my opinion. While the music in definitely Christmasy in nature, it is very pretty, and can be enjoyed all throughout the year. About the only Williams score I like better is "Jurassic Park", which benefits from a main theme that will never be beaten in beauty, and majesty, in my opinion. As for "Home Alone" though, I definitely recomend getting it, and "Lost in New York" as well. You will not regret it!
