Sublime Bach5
Perhaps period-practice enthusiasts will balk, or anyone who disdains use of the anachonistic piano in Baroque music, for the style of presentation here is unabashedly romantic and lush. The recorded sound places the performers somewhat in the distance, but the effect is both ethereal and intoxicating. The slow movements are particularly well done, inward and reflective, even transcendental, especially that of S.1060 that opens the CD. In short, sublime performances from the Casadesus family with colleagues in Switzerland (DeStoutz) and USA (Ormandy)

La famillie Casadesus knows how5
Three pianos - real concert grands from the old photo on the original LP. Three completely accomplished performers with an intense sympathy for each other (husband, wife, son) and deep love of this music. Real thought about how to present the works to hand.

This recording has all the trappings of an early 20th C musical training, but the element of genius combined with Frenchness raises these performances to a different level. No stars here, no soloists dominating, no showoffs, no massive technique on display. Rather the real technique of playing in ensemble, listening and balancing, being connected is what we get.

One of my lifetime favorite recordings. So glad to see it's on CD now.
